The film is based on true story of Eric Lomax(Colin Firth), a British POW during World War II who endured horrific conditions as a worker on the Thailand Death Railway after being captured by Japanese troops — with much of the trailer containing those scenes, in which Jeremy Irvine portrays the younger Lomax. Many years later, he confronts the Japanese interpreter (Hiroyuki Sanada) he holds responsible.
“The Railway Man” is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and will be released in the U.K. on Jan. 3 by Lionsgate. CAA is selling the domestic rights to the film in Toronto, where it received largely positive reviews.
