So, Disney buying Marvel was the greatest thing ever, or what?

This wouldn't have been possible without the mouse...

No chance. FF would have to start production next year, the government will look over this season for a minimum of a year (you'd think).

In theory they could arrange an FF transfer much sooner as they are dead in the water under Fox. Kinda like how quickly Spider-Man was incorporated into Civil War: both agree they can be used and off they go. Might be easier in this instance as all Fox has to do is simply hand the rights back early (as Sony did with Ghost Rider). Job done.

X-Men is obviously still a live franchise with Fox so they won't be back at least until the deal is completed in full and the 3 films coming next year have run thier course.

It’s past 2am I think it’s time for sleep for me. I’m gonna dream up my fantasy cast for X-Men. I’m struggling to think of actors because between Marvel, Sony, Fox and DC they’ve just about snatched up everyone lol.

Marvel should start scripting the movies right now behind closed doors.

If Feige doesn't make any noise today, then well, we know where he likely is.....:sly:

Oh yeah, I bet right now they're shuffling film schedules and discussing which films they think should be in phase 4. I doubt Avengers 4 will make any dramatic changes for this since they are well under production. I could see a reference or tease but I doubt any actor will be hired. I'm certain the Skrulls will now reference Galactus in Captain Marvel.

AHHHHHHHH! :D

I am THRILLED that the X-Men - but especially the FF are now a part of the MCU. I thought for sure that the FF would return someday, but that the X-Men would only return if Disney and Fox started making joint films if Fox started failing somehow. This is insane.

I want to thank everyone here, for keeping the hope alive - shout outs to Willie, RagnaroknRoll, Surfer, Iceman, First Avenger, DarkRaven, ADollarADay, Spider-Fan, along with so many others who I’m forgetting. This thread was my refuge when FFINO came out. It is to internet threads what Doctor Doom is to comic book villains. I said I’d only ever join when the FF came home to celebrate - so here I am!

Some stray thoughts -

There was one thing FF-related put out during the Fox years that I really enjoyed - the ’07 FF cartoon show. The show was animesque in design, and the stories had the feel of the Waid/Wieringo run. By no means perfect, but lightyears away from the Fox films.

Marvel’s films - at their worst - were mediocre, but they’ve yet to make a bad film. They have an amazing track record, and as the FF fit in perfectly with the MCU tone, I’m excited to see what comes next.

I think they’ll cast a Johnny around the same age as Peter is in the current films. Feige’s in it for the LONG term - and by long, I mean I predict the MCU outliving me. He wants to get the most mileage out of these characters, and let us see them grow.

Can't wait to see Spidey mee the FF!

I’m sure this deal has been in the works for quite some time. I doubt very much that this is only the result of several months worth of dealing. I’m sure the roots of this goes back to when Ike was ousted, though serious negotiations may have only started more recently.

I think there’ll be a retcon for Wanda to be Magneto’s daughter. That’s probably the strongest connection between the X-Men/Avengers worlds, and rife for drama.

Expect to see Surfer and Thor fight sometime in a cineplex near you! And expect a Surfer film!!!

I predict that we’ll see an awesome FF/Moleman film, with the characters fighting bizarre underworld monsters. :D

I also can’t wait to see that awesome time-traveling Avengers movie where they get characters from different eras to battle Kang!

I don’t mind whether the FF come from the 60’s or from the present. Time will tell.

I wonder if they’ll diversify the FF cast. While I prefer characters to look like their iconic comic book counterparts (Barry not being blond on the CW bothers me for example), I also think it’s very important that kids watching superhero films see themselves in the characters. With a more diverse audience, it’s important that the characters - who are 99% white - start to reflect those who look up to them as heroes.

I wonder if we may see a cinematic Inhumans. I suspect that the TV/film characters don’t crossover because in Kevin’s mind, the films are MCU canon, while the TV shows are not. By that I mean, from his perspective, you have characters who exist on the small screen and react/interact with his film universe, but in his films they don’t really exist. I suspect this is because he’s playing the long game. One day, eventually, there won’t be a DD tv show. And he may feel comfortable reintroducing that character to his film world many years down the line. This is even more true for Inhumans, which, unlike DD, was a complete failure. Maybe in fifteen years time they’ll be introduced into the MCU as supporting characters on Feige’s terms. Just a theory.

Marvel has a mixed record with villains, but none of them have been downright horrible. At worst they’ve been forgettable (Maleikith). But they did a good job with Red Skull and Hela, and a great job with Loki. When it comes to Doom, arguably greatest villain in comics, I think they’re going to take that very seriously. It can’t get any worse than what we got from Fox. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin through us a curveball and gave us a Doom film.

I hope Robert Downey Jr. will be around long enough for us to see a Doom vs Iron Man moment (I actually think he’ll survive Infinity War). Doom vs Strange would be great too.

Poor, poor, poor DC, stuck with Warner Brothers, and executives who don’t reward creativity or comic book knowledge. Now there won’t be any competition.

I would like to see R-Rated Deadpool movies continue, or at the very least, Ryan Reynolds continue as Deadpool. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reynolds’ DP is brought over into the MCU. In any crossovers, he’d be toned down. At the same time, I know Disney will strive to keep it all PG-13. Hmmm. I do hope they bring over DP’s Colossus - they really did justice to him.

It’ll be great to see Jean, Scott, Storm, and Beast all done justice - only major X-characters done well in the main Fox X-Men films were Wolvie, Magneto, and Prof X. I can’t wait to see a colorful X-Men film. A shame that Fox is doing another Dark Phoenix film, but since they’re in it for the long haul, I’m sure Marvel will do their own many years down the line. Make it so Kevin.

In a weird way, it all kind of worked out. Without Spidey, X-Men, and FF at the outset, Marvel had to make do, and they got to the point where they were giving us Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy movies - which I enjoyed. We probably wouldn't have seen these characters put to film until much later if Marvel had had all their characters from the beginning. Plus, the FF and X-Men can set the foundation for future films as the first cycle of Marvel movies comes to close. It’s really transformational for their cinematic universe.

I loved Ragnarok, but boy, I hope Thor and Sif have a conversation down the line where they remember the W3. Unrelated, but I had to get that off my chest.

I wanted my name to be ‘DetectiveStrange’ but there wasn’t enough character space. Oh well.

At the end of the day, I am beyond thrilled that the FF and the X-Men are joining the MCU. However, I think Disney buying Fox is actually terrible for the film industry, for a many number of reasons. I wish it would have happened another way. But I can’t help but also celebrate. And I can’t wait to see a great Fantastic Four movies. I may not post again, so I'll say it one more time - thanks for keeping the hope alive!

i can't see any reason that Fox couldn't hand back the rights early. It's not like they aren't going back properly anyway. Is anyone apart from staunch FFINO defenders going to cling desperately to the FF rights now and try to prevent Disney from using them?

Couldn't this one be an internal transfer? Or if not that, they "licence" the rights to Disney to use like Spider-Man in Civil War for this interim period? Then Marvel get them properly once everything is official.

Er.... who are you? You speak as if you've known us for a long time but we don't know you at all. Are you someone else?

A rights sharing deal ala Spider-Man for at least the FF in the immediate future would be the best course of action. Once the deal closes, it becomes irrelevant and the rights just go back to Marvel.

Could just be that hwe was just lurking. Either way, welcome to the boards DetectiveStrange.

Please Feige KEEP RYAN REYNOLDS AS DEADPOOL!!! Lol thanks

Yep, I don't know anyone here, never posted - but I lurked. Had to find shelter during the s***storm that was FFINO.

It's been so long, I never thought the day would come.

Yeah, I remember before I registered an account I used to just read. I didn't feel I needed to comment. And then when talk of an FF film was heating up, I created an account.

Deadpool SEQUELS you say? So it looks indeed like they will adopt Deadpool :mnm:

Hey everyone....we did it!!!! We have won and now somewhere on the MCU world map. LATVERIA has been added and they could name drop it and then he shows up at the post credit

They should seriously make today a Holiday, because I feel like celebrating.

Surfer

The way I see it F4 can start right way in Phase 4. The X-Men films in production will have to run its course (New Mutants, Dark Phoenix, not sure what stage Gambit is in right now but that could probably be scraped). Deadpool is the tricky one. Right now I think Disney/Marvel should just let run its course as well, let it stand alone in its own universe for the time being. Disney isn't going to just scrap a billion dollar franchise that a lot of people like. Deadpool 2 is going to make a lot of money but if it really sucks they can let it go quietly after that but I just don't see that happening.
