The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I LOVE the 2nd opening of the 90s Cartoon, to me, that's the FF theme.

The thought of FF finally getting a MCU movie in the near future that will do the First Family of Marvel justice after so many years of debacles really make me giddy with excitement. Unfortunately, after 12-18 months of review and approval, it will take another year of planning and filming, so we probably won't see a MCU FF movie until after 2022 at the earliest.

Could be worse. At least now we might get a MCU FF by then, instead of waiting to see if Fox is petty enough to have another go at it to reset the clock and makes us wait for 2030 and beyond.

Sony is so desperate. I would have LOVED to see Venom as the villain for the third MCU Spider-Man movie and I would have loved to see the Symbiote in Infinity War

Keep hope alive . I think that iron spidey suit gets damaged on that planet and spidey gets the symbiote

If you told me 2 years ago that Marvel Studios would gotten the rights back to Spider-Man, X-Men, Deadpool, AND the Fantastic Four, I would've called you a liar!

True, there was a time not long ago when the hope of a MCU FF movie in the early 2020's was overly optimistic

I think there is hope that, with the premise that the deal will be closed, Marvel is working on a FF or Silver Surfer movie already to release as soon as everything is official.

I like this intro more than the other 2, but I believe they should get something completely original.
It's not like they've had anything really memorable and iconic, yet.

Yeah, I had already resigned myself to the idea that even if Fox never made another film, they could hold onto the rights until 2022.

Marvel won't start filming anything yet, but you can be damn sure they're already doing some planning. They're probably thinking about when the films will be released and how they will fit with the rest of the schedule and they're probably thinking about directors and scripts (they may very well have some people roughing out scripts now since that can be done cheaply).

Directors are likely already throwing their hats into the ring and expressing interest in directing a Fantastic Four film and offering their story ideas and take on what they like about them and why they should be the one to direct.

By the time the deal is finalized, they will probably already have a pretty good idea of where they're going ... though we may not hear anything for a while after that.

Your post got me to thinking that Taika might be an interesting, but somewhat dangerous, choice to direct a FF movie. Parts of what he did in Ragnarok would probably work really well with an FF movie. I don't, however, want to see Reed as a comedian. Humor was always a big part of the FF.

I liked part of what he did with Thor, but, for me, it was a little over the top.

I'd be interested in seeing what just about any of the other Marvel Directors (except maybe the guy who did Thor, Dark World) could do.

Generally speaking, I think he knows where to use the humor and where not. My biggest gripe with Thor is I would have left some of the humor out of the opening scene, because I thought it lost its intensity... though it also demonstrated some of Thor's confidence and cockiness - which was sort of fun.

Thor Ragnorak was fun but it's not exactly a model I would use for the tone for FF.

Peyton Reed would be my ideal choice for Fantastic Four.
“Fantastic Four in the comics was always the pinnacle of Marvel, the crown jewel — they were the first family of Marvel Comics. The two existing versions did massive pendulum swings from each other. One was very pitched toward younger kids and very broad, and the second was a much darker version of it. I just personally feel like they have not gotten the tone right. And man, it’s a bummer. I think the tone has got to be one of optimism, and you’ve got to take it seriously.”
This guy has the right idea. Wish he'd be the one to direct Fantastic Four instead of Ant-Man(though he did do a good job on that).

He can still direct the MCU version of the Fantastic Four. I mean the Russo brothers direct both the Captain America sequels and Avengers Infinity War, so Reed could do both. Reed may not be the best director of the MCU, but compared to the Story movies which were 'eh?' and whatever Trank and FOX studios gave us, he may become the best FF director ever.

Reed wanted to make F4 a period piece. Not a fan of that approach

I could get behind that. I was mainly throwing Taika out there because I had never really considered it before. I could see both pros and cons with him (As I saw in Ragnarok).

So apparently Deadpool got pushed up from June to May and New Mutants got pushed back 10 months and Gambit got pushed back(again) after losing its director(again) so now the big question now is that what movies will be the last that Fox will be able get out before the merger is approved. There's been these reports of spinoffs of Doctor Doom and Kitty Pryde in development that I just don't see ever seeing the light of day and some mentioning of that James Franco attached mutant pic which probably is getting get scrapped in light of recent allegations against him.

Iger said that while the Merger is being approved the mouse will take a look at Fox's slate to determine which movies they can and cannot do so what happens now? Will Gambit ever get made? Who knows there's a chance that the deal doesn't go through forcing either a delay or Disney abandoning the deal entirely. Anything is up in the air. If the deal does go through which movie will the mighty mouse pull the plug on?

So many questions!

Others who know more than I do have weighed in and while the deal may need some tweaking, I haven't heard anyone say that Disney would be abandoning the deal entirely. I seem to recall there's some clause that they would pay a pretty penny if the deal was abandoned, but don't remember the details. Certainly getting use of IPs they own wouldn't be something that would cause any problems whatsoever. I never thought Gambit was going to be made anyway. DP is a lock. New Mutants?? Doubt it.

I'm getting more worried that New Mutants will go straight to DVD if this keeps up. Gambit is probably dead in the water, but I never had much faith in that coming together anyway.

El Mayimbe said on Twitter that New Mutants is being pushed back because apparently the film was being test screened and the consensus was that it wasn't scary enough. So expect some reshoots soon. New Mutants will get released no matter what but the fact they pushed the release date so close to when the Disney/Fox deal will be closed means there's zero chance that a potential sequel can be made( unless somehow the merger get's blocked or delayed, or Disney decides to continue with it even after the deal is finalized). It'll be interesting to see what happens nevertheless.

As for Gambit. That movie is never getting made. Before this news, the movie already lost two directors(Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman both left) and the reported budget is simply too big for character who's entire shtick is throwing their cards magically.

Kitty Pryde is definitely not going to be happening at Fox unless the whole deal falls apart. Tim Miller is directing the new Terminator film with James Cameron which has a release date of July 2019 so he won't be free to even think about starting anything until after the deal is done. And I can't see him dropping out from the Terminator, with Cameron's involvement its going to be pretty high profile and could have a big impact on Miller's career if it does well.

That Doom film is still in question as well. Unless Venom is a hit, I'd say there's little chance that thing gets made. Sorry Noah Hawley you're uber-talented but a solo Doom film sounds like it's going to be...doomed(pun intended). It has as much of a chance of happening as that solo Silver Surfer film that JMS was developing after the second Tim Story disaster-piece came out.

I've seen people say that Marvel should continue the Doom movie plan themselves when the rights return and spin off the FF from that. I completely disagree with it. It plays into the silly idea that the villains are the only worthwhile part of the franchise, something that I hate when people say.

The movies have damaged the Fantastic Four so much. It will be great when this nightmare is officially over.

 A Doom movie could be awesome but I want the F4 firmly established

El Maybe has shown himself to be a pretty lousy at getting things right in the past. In this case, I wouldn't be surprised if someone at Fox fed him this line as a much less severe version of the real truth.

Not scary enough? That could be fixed with a little editing, sound engineering etc. But I can't remember ever hearing of a film at this stage being pushed off this far. I suspect reality is that test audiences may have thought it wasn't scary enough... but they probably also thought it was a steaming pile of sh** in general. I can't imagine this kind of drastic action unless the problems were a lot worse than it simply not being scary enough.

... and the idea of Fox making a steaming pile of sh** is pretty easy to believe.

James Gunn telling it on how it is.

Yeah, I think that's true.
