Doom would be so universal for the MCU. He literally could eclipse Vader in the public's mind share if they use him effectively.

The way to build up Doom is to tear Vader down in future instalments. Have Darth Vader play Marco Polo, wear a trash bag, look like a crash test dummy, control metal objects and potentially have goat's legs. :o

They can always say it's Ultimate Darth Vader.

I'd laugh if things weren't sliding so badly on the Star Wars side.

Simon Kinberg to replace Kathleen Kennedy?

Get Josh Trank back to do his Star Wars movie he had planned. :o

And get Michael B Jordan to tell fans they'll see it anyway.

The sticking regulatory points have to do with "must have" content being combined with content distribution. WB doesn't fall into that category since the bulk of their distribution and revenue comes from the box office, home releases, and consumer products. The content that falls into those categories more than any other is news and sports. NBC has Comcast covered in both those arenas already, WB is in neither of those.

Like Universal content today, WB can be freely licensed for broadcast. The real money to be made is going to be in OTT licensing. Oddly, Comcast seems to be fostering a good relationship with Netflix for their content. So they could easily make additional money from that licensing. It's a bit of a change from how combative they were before with them. In fact, continuing with this relationship for the immediate future would work to their benefit on a regulatory front.

Channel wise, NBCUniversal has several weak areas that could be plugged from a transaction with Turner. Such as children's and international.

Report: Comcast Expects to Make Offer for Fox on Wednesday
Holy ****, Wednesday? This is popping off very soon

If the Marvel rights slip through Disney's grasp and into Comcast's hands, will there be much hope left of ever getting them back? This is the closest they've ever gotten to them.

The most interesting part of the new report to me is that Disney is willing to divest ALL of the RSNs in order to get the deal done. Many analysts had assumed that those networks were a key "get" for the Mouse, given that their content could potentially be added to ESPN's new streaming offering.

Though I would absolutely LOVE the Marvel rights to revert, I am becoming and less enthralled with the deal as a Disney acquisition. It doesn't aid ESPN, which has been the Mouse's biggest issue the last few years. And it doesn't add much to Disneyflix, which is their #1 streaming effort and will be the repository of 99% of the Mouse's A-List content. I hate saying it, but Iger may be better off losing this bidding war.

Yeah that is a bit of a surprise. Perhaps part of Iger's strategy is to market getting approval ASAP as a selling point vs. having to out compete for the Fox assets and potentially overpay.

Disney is going to come out of this with something.

Hopefully this is foreshadowing about how Disney feels about Sky. Sacrificing it so they have more resources to fight Comcast with.

I wonder if it's possible for Disney and Comcast to come to some sort of agreement. A divestment of the assets like that CNBC article.

Okay, in light of new information - Let's make a deal, part deux!

New Fox
Fox Sports Regional RSNs

Disney
Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, Fox 2000
National Geographic Networks
Star India
One half of FOX's share in Hulu
Marvel theatrical rights held by Comcast
Marvel theme park rights east of the Mississippi

Comcast
Twentieth Century Fox Television, FX Productions, Fox21
FX Networks
Sky
Endemol Shine
One half of FOX's share in Hulu

Yeah, billions of dollars in break-up fees from Fox but likely not the Marvel rights(which isn’t even at the forefront of their minds right now).

Me thinks that if the Comcast outbids the Mouse, Disney only gets the breakup fee of a billion dollars but none of the Fox assets which will go over to Comcast/Universal.

If this deal falls through then it would be rather embarrassing for Iger who gave up a possible presidential run to see this deal through completion. I mean he’s been going around telling journalists on-camera that he believes the Fox acquisition will go through so for the deal to go south I think be a huge failure for Iger.

I really don’t want the FF to be away from the MCU anymore but I realize this deal is far bigger than Marvel rights so I guess it’s just not meant to be.

I think some of you are giving up too soon. Things seem to be more in Disney's favor.

That could work

All this talk of mergers and corporate takeovers and bidding wars was much more than anything I ever wanted or even cared about. I just want those Marvel rights back home where they belong however it needs to happen. If they announced tomorrow that Marvel got the FF/Xmen rights back I wouldn't care what happens to FOX one bit. I hope they either get FOX or cut a deal with Comcast and split certain assets.

All anyone ever joined these forums for was to talk about comics. But people ended up talking about intellectual property law, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, anti-trust, SEC rules, company law etc. It's inevitable, given the nature of these comics and subsequent movies. Well, at least for Marvel.

I don't know if anyone in a DC forum ever talks about rights. It's not really ever an issue.

Disney is getting the remainder of the available marvel assets, that I am sure of

Everything else I don’t really care to know

I think some of them over there talk about rights. Like getting them away from WB hands. :o

Maybe this is what Stan Lee was talking about:

Just give me this scene in live-action and I'll die a happy man.

Yeah ha that’s literally the only aspect of this deal that I care about.

Maybe Comcast will pull a Sony and team up with Marvel to produce MCU X-Men and F4 movies if they win

That's the only aspect of the deal that the vast majority of the folks posting here discussing this whole deal care about. Most people here couldn't give less than two sh**s about corporate politics. The fate of the Marvel rights are the primary concern for most here.

There's a better chance of me hooking up with Christina Hendricks than Roberts and Iger putting their grudges aside to cooperate with each other to do a Sony type deal to bring the FF & X-Men into the MCU. Roberts and Iger loathe each other--never in a million years would Comcast and Disney ever come together to do a deal like that especially since Iger would still be butt hurt over losing Fox to Roberts.

Edit: Comcast will either keep a slimmed-down version of Fox and let them continue where they left off with a Dark Phoenix sequel(ugh) or they do a total reboot of X-Men and might let Noah Hawley do his Doctor Doom film(which will eventually be used as a springboard for a newly rebooted proper FF film). Either way, there's no scenario in which the First Family and the Mutants comes home to the MCU should Comcast be successful in getting Fox from Disney.

In such a scenario, I would want Comcast/Universal to do a complete reboot on the X-Men. i'm beyond tired of the current universe. So even if Comcast gets it, I hope they wipe the slate clean and keep Deadpool\X-Force
