I hope Disney buys the past seasons of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders from Netflix and move them to Hulu.

Is that a likely move? It would be nice to have it all under one roof and for them to have ownership of that history.

I expected this to happen after Netflix cancelled both Iron Fist and Luke Cage in a row

That'd be for the best.

I’m actually fine with Daredevil ending at three seasons. I feel season three wrapped things enough that I really don’t need another season even though more of this show is never a bad thing.

Honestly where can you even take Matt Murdock next after he’s gone been through his lowest point mentally, emotionally, and philosophically? Best to end now while you’re the hottest on the street instead of returning to potentially diminishing returns quality wise. Daredevil being cancelled is not the worst thing in the world.

Something has to be going on behind the scenes. Iron Fist I could definitely understand. Luke Cage was a surprise, but still believable. But this- this- there is just no way that falling ratings are the cause. They have to be making some sort of plans.

Netflix doesn’t want to work with Marvel anymore so after the next seasons for Jessica Jones and Punisher drop then that’s pretty much it as far as the Marvel Netflix shows are concerned since Netflix will cancel both those shows after they put their next(and last) seasons on their service.

Netflix Daredevil: 2015-2018

Matt Murdock: You were the Man Without Fear now you’re the Man Without A Show.

RIP.

He's coming to the MCU

Hate to be the guy that said that was happening, but I called it. A contract under Disney is a lot more limiting than a contract under old Marvel. Even if Netflix was calling the shots and had the right to keep renewing for as long as they wanted, Disney could have made that unfeasible (i.e. 15MM per episode of Daredevil with x in the director chair and no y content). Punisher releases in December/January and gets cancelled from Netflix a month after release. Jessica Jones season 3 will be the last Marvel original show on Netflix. It'll be cancelled a month after release.

These shows will probably go to Hulu either as a continuation or a reboot. It'll depend on what the contract said. Marvel and ABC are the producers. Netflix is the current streaming distributor. Buena Vista is the distributor elsewhere. The only question mark is how long does netflix have rights, exclusive and non exclusive, to distribute these shows on their platform.

On this note, ATT may put up its 10% stake in Hulu for sale as a way to liquidize assets and help balance its sheets and pay off its debt. Iger has previously mentioned during the FY financials call and interviews that Disney would be interested in buying their shares if ATT and/or Comcast were wanting to divest them.

UPDATE 2-AT&T commits to cutting up to $20 bln in debt in 2019

EDIT: From the deadline article:

“While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel,”Netflix said also.

Seems to imply that there is an expiration period on these shows and that they'll eventually be pulled from the service. The question now is if Marvel can continue this same story on Hulu or if they'll have to reboot. I'm guessing the former....if they want.

And to add to that

The shows are not coming to Hulu and Daredevil and co will be rebooted

Imagine being so excited and then getting hit in the gut like that. Terrible.

It’s not like Charlie Cox is the only person who could play Daredevil. We all praised Edward Norton and Andrew Garfield in their respective roles and we were raging when they weren’t gonna reprise their roles, then we got Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland as replacements, and they were even better.

Finally saw Venom tonight. Not gonna lie I kinda enjoyed it.Good action. I would be open to seeing spiderman in this universe I know shock and horror. But Venom reminded me why I liked the darker tone of amazing spiderman 1. Still not keen on Morbius tho Kraven could be good.

Even though you anticipate it, that Daredevil cancelation still really stings. But like someone said, it would’ve been impossible to top season 3, it was literally perfection.

Maybe Elodie Yung can be MCU Psylocke now.

Daredevil is the best superhero tv show atm... I can't believe it got cancelled. Life is not fair and the talk of Daredevil possibly being recast in the near future hurts me even more.

What sucks the most about this whole situation is that they only seem to be giving us concrete ideas of what's not going to happen- not what is. We don't know what the plan is (because we all know there has to be one, right?), even though that would greatly allay our fears.

Oh, and the TV executives not getting along with the movie executives is- obviously- a major issue that needs to be changed. We knew there was bad blood between Perlmutter and Feige, but to have this be a systemic, workplace culture issue is unacceptable to me since they are both Marvel.

I have a feeling the Disney Streaming shows will raise the bar on quality - bringing them close to film level. Daredevil et al were fun when they lasted, but I think it's better for them to drop now than overstay their welcome (and with the exception of Daredevil, I feel like all the other shows had slid to the point they were mediocre at best).

I'm curious what will happen on the TV/Hulu side. Will they clean that up and organize them and bring them more in line with streaming and films, will they cancel them, or will they let them continue relatively unchanged?

The opportunities for Disney streaming are exciting, but I think for that side to work as well as possible, they need to do some work on the relative mess they've got on a variety of other sources, and not having the Netflix shows around will help focus that effort.

The Netflix shows I will have to treat as a closed off story once the final one comes out and look to the mini-series and upcoming films before we learn whatever the plans are for the more gritty street level characters going forward.

I really hope whenever they do launch new shows that they are more clearly a part of the MCU next time and that crossover for major events is possible.

Exactly. And as much as I dislike Perlmutter, it's not fair for the Marvel TV talents to be wasted like this and not get any connection to the MCU. Disney should just give everything to Feige instead of keeping the status quo, which might as well have a Berlin Wall between the movie and TV side.
