It’s an epic, dramatic story of its own with Comcast as the chief villain. :D:

Or more accurately, Comcast fighting Disney :D

I think there will be sequel with Sony being the next villain if they take Spider-Man back.

Once Disney balances its financials over the next few years after buying Fox I could see Disney buying Sony. If Apple or someone else doesn't The government probably wouldn't stop them since by then Netflix, Amazon and Apple will compensate for all the media consolidation.

I'm not sure if Sony has anything Disney would want besides Spider-Man

Men in Black, Bad Boys, 21 Jump Street, Jumanji, Underworld, Hotel Transylvania, Stuart Little, Ghostbusters, The Karate Kid,The Smurfs. Many of these franchises would work well under Disney.

Eh, the skulls are a little much. That said, yeah, it'd be nice if she were a villain, and preferably an independent villain. By and large she shouldn't be involved in big ideological affairs of any kind; she should be involved in self-interested intrigue. Which doesn't mean she can't be an ally of convenience of nearly anybody, just that she should always be out for her and hers in said alliances.

( Which doesn't mean she can't ever care about anyone else. Mystique should care about those legitimately close to her, like Destiny. Just. . . if you aren't inside her fairly limited monkeysphere? She don't care if you live or die, unless it benefits her. )
Yep, self-interest all the way outside of her very limited close group.

Imagine if Sony were still doing battle with EON and MGM over the Thunderball/ James Bond rights.

Are these franchises profitable, though? Jumanji is the only one that's really been a smash hit for the studio. I could see Disney trying to buy parts of Sony. And if Apple gets to them -- it could be better for the MCU as they have a great working relationship with Disney

Honestly I just want Spider-Man back. If Disney can do it preferably without buying Sony that would be great.

All good exclusive material for a new streaming service at least.

Marvel Studios will totally get its entire Spideyverse back from Sony. Acquiring X-Men should be a major indicator that will indeed happen.

Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough to keep Disney from its characters asses.

Disney got X-Men because they bought Fox. I don't know if they'll buy Sony though. Would such a transaction even be allowed?

I think it would be. DOJ had no issue with Disney buying Fox (outside of Fox Sports and ESPN merging) because they can see they have competitors like Netflix amazon and Apple.

Nah it would give them too much power. But I just feel it in my gut that Disney will somehow buy the Spidey property in full from Sony.

Perhaps they’ll use the Reality Stone so Pascal can get a clue.

They tried to in 2013, I believe. But Sony had an insane asking price

Yes I believe Sony's asking price back then for the Spider-Man rights was something ridiculous like 4-5 billion. Iirc one of the leaked Sony emails said something about how they might reconsider a sale in 2020 depending how the partnership with Marvel went.

Didn't Disney have something like Endemol Shine which might be something to bargain with Sony for Spider-Man? Or is that for a different studio that it could provide leverage?

Spider-Man and his entire rogues gallery are probably worth 3 billion tops. Maybe 3.5 billion on a good day. To put into perspective. Disney bought Lucasfilm for 4 billion there is no way spider-man and his rogues gallery are worth as much as an entire studio.

Sidebar theory I was thinking: if Thanos’s un-snap causes random people to come back with superpowers, they wouldn’t necessarily be mutants but mutates right?

If it does I guess that trashes that MCU mutant theory.

Yep, and as you said earlier, those companies are just going to get bigger and have an increasing presence in this space.

What made this deal so insane to me as a longtime X-Fan is the idea of the mutantsi coming home to the MCU. I'm sure everybody expected F4 to go back eventually because Fant4stic bombed too hard but never in a million years would I have ever imagined X-Men going back to Marvel. It still almost feels like a dream
i never stopped hoping for it

I highly doubt they'd go about it like that. Right there you'd be limiting stories that flash back to Apocalypse in ancient Egypt or Selene in pre-historic times. Also, you couldn't have an old Wolverine born in the 1800s, or Mystique for that matter. That's because the snap affected living beings in present time.

Also today Ukraine approved it according to this link: Украинский Антимонопольный комитет разрешил слияние Disney и FOX
Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee resolved Disney and FOX merger While you are worried about the fate of the National Selection at Eurovision , another, no less bloody drama is ripening. Today, the Ukrainian Anti-Monopoly Committee resolved the issue of the merger of Disney and FOX . More precisely, how it will affect the domestic film market. So far I can not tell you all the details, but most importantly, you should know: the department has allowed the deal. This means that in the near future there will be a lot of those who will greet such a decision, and those who are dissatisfied with them. This is not surprising: at first glance, the existing monopoly in the Ukrainian distribution market will only increase after it. But my advice to you: do not rush to break spears in the debate. At any time, new circumstances may open up, after which you will look at the situation from a completely different angle.
