Can’t help but smile aswell. They really tried and failed miserably to replace the iconic xmen. I find it hilarious that they thought that was a good idea. They should of just made them there own thing. So glad to see the xmen popping up again. Perhaps this time we can get a true marvel v capcom game with not just mcu characters

Venom tracking between 55 million and 85 million. It's difficult to say how this movie being a success of failure will impact Spidermans future in the MCU. If it's good they might feel confident enough to move on without spidey on the other hand if it's bad. They might get desperate and pull him from the MCU.

Venom flopping is definitely better for Spider-Man's chances of staying in the MCU. It would show that Sony needs Marvel, and put Marvel in a stronger negotiating position.

I have no doubt that Venom will have a decent/strong opening weekend, but I don't think it will have much legs.

I'm curious to know exactly how much this thing cost.

I think it will be hard for Venom to truly bomb. The budget is low enough and there will be enough people curious enough that it will do okay.

I hope enough people like us intentionally stay home to make a statement, but I think even people who understand the situation and want Sony to just stop this foolishness will say: "I'm curious and how much difference will my one ticket make?"

And that plus enough people who don't even know this isn't part of the MCU will probably make this film profitable.

To be honest, I think any outcome could be construed positively or negatively:

If Venom bombs, Sony could either say (good) "Well, guess we shouldn't be continuing this universe." or (bad) "Holy crap, we can't make it without Spider-Man!"

If it succeeds, it could lead to them thinking (good) "Hey, this turned out pretty decent- guess we're safe to go our own way." or (bad) "If this is how we did now, how much more could we make with ol' Webhead back?"

Ultimately I'm very conflicted as to what the best outcome is for us as fans, and the greater MCU as a whole.

Justice League had massive reshoots, Henry Cavill's mustache, and a whole slew of problems, along with a mess of a script. That would impact its finances.


That being said, I doubt Venom has legs to stand on. It just looks... eh.

I don't think Disney has said they'll release the films. I remember seeing an article (a week ago?) that had a headline indicating something like that, but when I read the actual text, there was nothing from Disney saying they'd release the films. If you can find the article, read it again. I think you'll find nobody at Disney is making any commitments.

... but with that said, Dark Phoenix will almost certainly be released in theaters since it's scheduled to be released before the deal is expected to close.

And I can't see Disney jumping in and stopping New Mutants the moment the deal closes, so that one will likely be released as well.

The only chance I see is if Fox themselves decide Dark Phoenix isn't ready for its February release.

I think Dark Phoenix will be released in February. It will be awful, and Disney will take possession of a dead X-Men franchise.

Dark Phoenix will definitely be delayed again. And the deal closes early next year. So the question, does Disney want to taint the X-Men brand by releasing a movie that is terrible? Why would they want to shoot themselves in the foot like that? They should just take the loss of DP's budget and make 5x that with an MCU X-Men movie. Do we really want the general audience souring on characters like Jean?

Dark Phoenix will damage the brand, again, but it all depends on Fox, and if they delay it so Disney eventually decides what to do, it will raise some eyebrows

I don't know. I think at this point they know the re-shoot schedule and they know what remaining work they have (and they're likely to cut a lot of corners in terms of special effects etc. to keep the budget from getting any bigger), so they know if they'll have something ready to go by February or not at this point. And they haven't pushed it off yet, so I think they're charging ahead.

I suspect they're just slapping together enough to have something they can call a complete movie, and they'll hope it gets better than 9% on Rotten Tomatoes and light the candle.

I'd like to think it would get delayed again, but another delay would indicate they're trying to make it better, and I doubt they're going to put much more effort than they already have.

I doubt it is 9% on RT bad. The X-Men films have not quite hit THAT level at any point. I see same ballpark as Apocalypse.
