I'm wondering if the vampire angle could hurt them. Are people getting sick of vampires yet? I know I am.

I think traditional vampires are fine, it’s all this new age teen vampire thing that people are getting sick off.

I still hold out hope that there can be a deal reached that allows for right-sharing between the two companies, i.e. Sony can use Spider-Man (but not Tom Holland) and Marvel can keep using Tom Holland. Otherwise the only way we get them all fully under one roof is Disney acquiring Sony, which is highly unlikely (at least within the next decade).

I'm a big fan of the Fox acquisition, even beyond the X-Men properties because there is some stuff that Fox does very well. Disney is great at doing well on established IP, but have been lacking in launching new franchises (e.g. John Carter, Tomorrowland) and one-off genre films (e.g. Nutcracker, Wrinkle In Time). Fox seems to be able to do that better and will add much needed fresh thinking and creativity to a Disney machine that has been increasingly IP-centric and reliant.

I feel like, in some ways, this could increase likelihood of a sharing deal. If Venom had bombed, Disney might have taken a hard-line stance.

With Venom's performance, they could feel more pressure to make a deal Sony might be willing to agree to.
 
I don't think Disney under any circumstances will allow Venom to pollute the MCU. Because that's clearly what Sony wants

But is Morbius a traditional Vampire? I agree that I think there might be a market for an old-school, bad ass, Vampire that follows the traditional rules, but Morbius, while not a teen, is still something of a "new-age" vampire.
 
Vampires are never really out. I don't see that as a problem.

I meant more as in avoiding the Twilight teen heartthrob type where the looks and teen relationships are more important than their fear factor and abilities.

Any word on the EU decision? I haven't seen anything- hopefully a good sign- but maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

I've been doing some searching, but I haven't found anything. My concern is, if we don't have a decision by Thursday, Disney may not be able to comment about an actual closing, because they'd need an official EU ruling first.

That would definitely be a shame if that happens. I wonder if they would even have anything to report on the deal in that case. Hopefully the EU has a limit on how long/how many times they can protract their decision, but I think I heard there isn’t such a protection.
 
What are these TV divestments exactly? What do they want them to sell off? Anything in particular that they were expecting to keep?

The Mouse has to sell of its 50% interest in A&E cable channels in the European Economic Area. Disney released a statement that they will continue with its 50% ownership of A&E Networks in the US, but I wouldn't be surprised if that gets spun off as well. Especially since the Mouse is hanging onto its 50% stake in Endemol-Shine.

Well Disney should keep hold of Endemol Shine, because that's a bargaining chip with Sony, I believe. Would come in useful if they need to negotiate for Spider-Man rights. As to whether Sony would go for that though is another matter, but at least Disney have some bargaining power.

well probably find out during the earnings call where things stand. I fully expect a closure date announcement on Thursday. I imagine a lot of smaller countries would have been waiting for the EU's decision before making theres.
