They are not gonna make it. Kinberg as always just talks out of his butt. This is the guy that yours he wants to make a Fan4stic 2 movie. Don't pay attention to anything he says. Feige is gonna banish him to the negative zone.

While I have zero faith in Kinberg, and while I generally agree with everything you said... to be completely fair, it's very difficult to tell from a trailer. So many scenes are edited together so quickly, a terrible movie can be made to look good and vice-versa.

To really judge how well the film is directed, we'll have to see how the story flows, how sound and lighting and pacing and camera work etc. all work together to create a certain mood and how well that mood fits the story. If I want to judge how well a film is directed, I'd like to watch a five-minute, minimum, uninterrupted, unedited clip.

I have zero faith in Kinberg's directorial skills, but I also think it would be unfair to judge based on the trailer.

But some things the trailer does tell us is, whether the film is well directed or not, there either aren't a lot of great, exciting, fresh moments in the film, or if there are, for some reason they chose not to show us.

You're right, Willie- trailers definitely don't always paint a full picture. I really hope this hits Netflix soon after release, because there's no way I'm dragging myself to the theater to watch this mess.

Judging by the footage in the trailer, his direction seems very consistent in style with Singer's, which isn't really a bad thing since this is a sequel after all. However it also doesn't hurt when directors bring their flair into the franchise to make it feel fresh.

Nothing about the visuals or the action showcased is eye grabbing to me. Not the costumes, not the sets (except for Cerebro but we've seen that ad nauseum), not the vfx. The space sequence might be a stand out, but so far I'm not convinced.

It's uncanny (see what I did there?)- I was going to follow up with the same thing. It all feels so Singeresque. There's no flair to it. Granted, Kinbgerg's directorial body has a sample size of one, so maybe he just needs time to develop a director (man, I just made myself crack up writing that last part).

These two sentences really sum it up for me. The visuals are just so dull. And the costumes, while finally colorful, look really goofy and clunky to me - like they were designed for a high-school play or something. And Cerebro, I'm so freakin' sick of Cerebro.

After AOA, X-Men really needed something different to reinvigorate it, but it seems like Fox and Kinberg are just trying to see if people will pay to see the same images, themes, characters all over again.

The effort just seems cynical and insulting to fans.

Sadly, my wife wants to see both Dark Phoenix and Venom... but fortunately, she doesn't pay much attention to these things, so if I just don't mention to her that either of them are out, she'll probably forget.

Also, once the reviews are out, I suspect those will help me dissuade her.

Disney seems to have a lot of pull in China and have committed to invest millions on the building of theme parks in places like Shanghai. Iger has always been opposed to the trade war.

And keep in mind the Chinese President has applauded Disney’s efforts to improve bilateral relations between the US and China.

The Chinese have a great affinity for Disney(Marvel movies are very, very popular there). Don’t think there’s not much to worry here. Some analysts have stated there’s only a 20 percent chance that China will block the deal — which means there’s still an 80 percent chance the deal will be approved.

A Bloomberg legal analyst had this to say on the possibility of the Middle Kingdom blocking the Disney deal:

Qualcomm Inc.’s failure last week to win Chinese approval for its $44-billion takeover of NXP Semiconductors increases the risks for any other U.S. companies involved in deals requiring China’s approval, Rie said.

But I would be surprised if regulators in China tried to do to the same thing to Disney/Fox,” she said. “Unlike the Qualcomm case, it’s not credible that there are that there are competition concerns that prevent China’s approval. Using antitrust as an excuse would look like a straw man.”

There's no way they'd scrap the whole deal if China balked. If necessary, they'd create unique entities for distribution in China or find some other work-around.

They want China's business and they'll find a way to keep it one way or another, but they're not going to let one country scuttle a deal of this size.

Disney: Okay, if you don't like it, and don't approve, we'll go through with the deal, of course, but without approval we won't be able to distribute films in China anymore. What will that do to the quality of the films your people are able to see?

I think it most likely will get approval in China because imported films made under 50% of the market share of the Chinese Box Office.

Honest to god because of what they let Scott Buck did to Iron Fist and Inhumans, hopefully we can get reboots of those under Feige.
