Wow! Can you imagine them loosely adapting ANNIHLATION and including the likes of Annihilus, Galactus, and Surfer?! This soon after the merger. Maybe they really did do a smaller deal for these back when the “Legion” stuff was going down. And those talks led to the big deal. Full merger.

Fox got the tv rights from marvel for legion and the hellfire club. What they gave in return we don't know.

would the f4 rights be a fair deal for that? I could see fox giving up f4 but not xmen.

As i said we don't know what they got. It could have been to use ego in gotg 2 for all i know.
Obviously they didn't give up xmen they are still making movies. Art freak is speculating it might have been annihilus but that is speculation. We have thanos as the big bad for a4, not sure where annihilus would fit.

I have wondered (and speculated openly on that idea), and the secrecy around something as simple as a title has made me wonder if the title would reveal Galactus.

But on the other hand, can they even do Annihilation at this point? Can you bring all those characters in at this point? As comic fans, we knew about all those characters already. In this case, they'd be introduced in the film, and I can't imagine that working.

And that's primarily why, after there was no sign of Galactus/Surfer etc. in Infinity Wars, I became pretty sure that the idea of them having Galactus was wishful thinking. (such a deal would have likely happened in time for at least a hint in IW).

If it is Annihilation, I sort of suspect it's "Annihilation Light".

What had always seemed most likely to me was a sharing deal - Marvel would use Galactus and Surfer and Fox would then create a Surfer film based on the character Marvel introduced. The talk of a Surfer film reinforced that idea (if any deal had been made) to me.

But I have made strong circumstantial arguments that something seemed to be going on with Surfer and Galactus based in part on a Surfer video popping up on Marvel's YouTube channel in (late 2015?) when EVERY other video on there used characters that were exclusively Marvel.

But again, I became pretty much convinced that no deal happened when we saw no sign of Surfer or Galactus since the time it seemed something might have happened.

But why...I guess you could argue this is a good thing for Spideys future in the MCU in that Sony is confident to move forward without Spidey.

You know I was thinking. Could the Sony/Marvel deal open the door for Sony's Marvel division to merge with Marvel Studios? Depending on how the relationship is by Far From Home's release. If Sony's team like working with Feige. (That would be a huge factor in this working) Rather than it being a by contract basis it would mean they would basically be another team in Marvel Studios.

I wonder if Sony might consider it. If they could merge just their Marvel division with Disney's and still get royalties from the Spidey films for the next 5-10 years in some way. So it would be like an extension of the current deal but it would give Marvel Studios full access to Spider-Man and his rogues gallery and Sonys Marvel Division would become part of Marvel Studios. It wouldn't be a full Sony/Disney merger. So they would have to report to Feige to get any projects green lit. Sony could still co-finance and distribute the films if they wish. But it would mean Feige would handle full creative control which he doesn't have at the moment as Sony still have full creative control.

I’m curious on how big that second weekend dropoff will be. Venom has a B+ Cinemascore, same as Green Lantern, BvS, and Catwoman and those suffered huge dropoffs. Sony can certainly do a victory dance over this weekend but let’s see if they’ll still be dancing after the second weekend.

Oh that isn't a great camp to be in. Wonder how big the fall will be.

I hope the Marvel Studios opening cinematic keeps characters like Cap and Iron Man even if they retire/die, while updating it/lengthening it to include new characters like Captain Marvel. Imagine if they kept doing that how good it look when boosted by the F4 and X-Men too.

Looks like Venom is going to be a success so I see two ways Spider-Man's situation could develop, one less likely than the other.

  • Far From Home releases and Sony thinks they don't need Marvel Studios anymore so they refuse to renew the contract and Sony has total control over Spíder-Man again.
  • Far From Home releases and Sony thinks they don't need Spider-Man to be successful so they see no reason to not renew the contract so Spider-Man stays in the MCU.

Option #1 seems more likely to me, unfortunately.

When is Morbius supposed to come out?

I feel like it could ether way. I hope they would come up with a compromise. Let Marvel keep Holland. And maybe Marvel lets Sony cast their own spider-man in Miles.

Looks like spidey is gonna be out of the mcu. Avi wins...... sigh .....

I don’t see that happening. Damn I really wanted to see Holland grow into the role . Sigh

Idk I think even Sony would at least want a trilogy. Given Holland is on contract for a trilogy even if the Marvel deal only covers up to 5 films. Whether the third movie is set in the MCU or Sony verse who knows but I think well get a trilogy with Holland.
