It'd be a great one two punch if they announce a date and drop the Avengers 4 trailer the same day.

Any word on the trailer? I've seen some things suggesting it could be soon, but I haven't been following closely enough to know if we have any solid expectation of a trailer date.

I'm thinking a title/poster on Tuesday with the trailer dropping on GMA on Wednesdasy just in time for the special infinity war screening at collider so they can talk about it.

Damn, this week would be amazing. :yay:

I am betting it has nothing to do with Marvel.

I think that's a safe bet. It could be Marvel, but it could be 1000 other things as well.

Agreed. If I had to guess, I am going to guess it is a sequel or something to The Greatest Showman.

Yeah, no idea why it must be Marvel related.

But imagine ... him revealing the Avengers 4 title and trailer.

I honestly really hope they don't include Jackman in the MCU though.

Since 2000 we've been dealing with his Wolverine being shoved down our throats at the expense of all the other mutants. Let MCU Uncanny X-Men stand on their own.

I don't think my heart could take the effects of that combination! And I'm not being hyperbolic... alright, maybe a little- but I don't know how I could process so much in such a short time frame!

I don't think it's going to be anything to get too excited about. Probably something like a sequel to Greatest Showman or... a role in one of those Lego movies or something. Maybe getting the claws out for something animated or a cameo in one of the Fox-Men movies- but I feel strongly it's nothing to do with the MCU.

The timing of the announcement is just curious especially with all the speculation about the Avengers 4 trailer. Its hard not to speculate what-if it's marvel related.

I wonder could he return for another Fox X-men movie? Logan is set so far into the future that they probably could set ether another movie or cameo in between Dark Phoenix and Logan.

Venom may be, arguably, higher quality than the Transformer films, but it give Sony the same thing as Transformers (or Fast and Furious as another example) - the apparent ability to make crap films that are profitable.

And that's sort of a bummer. I don't expect Sony to invest in top talent or give the films big budgets now that they've done so well with Venom. I don't believe the potential audience for Venom and other related films are as easy as Transformers or F&F audiences, but it may take a while (and some bad films) until Sony realizes that.

Something to bear in mind is the fact that the audience tires very easily of bad film franchises and eventually abandons them. Sony should know this, as the Amazing Spider-Man franchise died an ugly death after two poorly-received, underperforming movies. But if they need further warning they can look to Transformers and the DCEU, both of which enjoyed great success for a time with critically-panned movies, only to see their ticket sales and profits plummet later on. Once the novelty wears off and the hype dies down, people won't buy tickets to see franchises that have a poor track record.

Yeah I think you’re right. It’s probably a special Christmas version of the greatest showman or something

Well there is a Greatest Showman stage musical I believe. Maybe he'll play it on stage for a limited run.

Venom making more than 800 WW doesn't exactly give the impression that the franchise is going to die soon.

Top talent maybe not (although they’ve already got Tom Hardy for the title character which is a great start), but Transformers and Furious films surely have decent budgets and don’t skimp on the action scenes.

Good point, and that might even be more depressing. Sony can now say: "Hey look, we can rake in gobs of cash and we don't even have to make good films... or spend much on them like Transformers or Fast and Furious."

Fast and Furious budgets are probably partly a victim of their own success. As the films continue to rake in money, the actors can demand more, and that drives budgets up (without increasing the actual quality on-screen).

Venom making more than 800 WW doesn't exactly give the impression that the franchise is going to die soon.

BvS and Suicide Squad both made over $800 million worldwide, yet Justice League only managed $657 million. The Rotten Tomatoes scores of the first two movies were 27% and the audience reaction to them was mixed, to say the least, which obviously negatively affected JL's box office. The Transformers franchise has followed a similar downward trajectory at the box office.

Venom, with a 29% RT score, is making Sony money now but it may also follow in the franchise-damaging footsteps of the DC and Transformers series. If it does, expect diminishing returns for Morbius, Kraven, Black Cat, Jackpot, etc.

SS I don't think has any bearing on JL. It had little connection to it. Now, BvS is more relevent an example, but the difference is BvS had no legs. It was expected to make over 1 billion, and it dropped like a stone. Venom had strong holds weekend to weekend basically everywhere.

The only thing making me re-think my stance that Venom's sequel will suffer is the thought of Woody Harrelson as Carnage. I think that's going to draw in a lot of people. Hell that might even get me interested and I still haven't seen Venom yet.

Yes that is an X-Factor and trump card to have in hand. Hardy vs Harrelson as Venom and Carnage is sure to interest some people, and a Spidey cameo could boost things further.

Seriously I can't imagine Harrelson as Carnage. Can't take him seriously and just for a few seconds in Venom he is way too over the top. Not the lunatic, good over the top, but the cringey, bad one.

But hey that's just me.
