The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 4

I have been wondering how Apocalypse would fare anyways since its the 3rd big budget superhero ensemble movie to come out fresh on the heels of BvsS and Civil War. Its also facing some competition.

As far as FOX goes they know the X franchise need a shot of adrenaline after 16 years. Marvel is killing it right now and they could use some healthy promotion if they want to expand the Xverse. That pathetic attempt at FF would only help to accelerate talks.

The X-Men franchise needs a serious makeover.

And Simon Kinberg needs to go.

X-Men has been doing well ever since First Class. They aren't gonna stop unless Apocolypse does exceptionally bad. Which I don't see happening.

F4 needs a makeover way more.

But what they both need is Marvel. They need to be home with the rest of the fam.

And Simon Kinberg needs to go.

I've thought this since DoFP, which for the record I liked quite a bit. I feel that Singer and the various performances elevated what was a pretty lackluster screenplay.

Agreed 1000%. That being said I just watched CW ...

I've never been so let down by a film before. :csad:

Seriously this mixed with the horrible reviews for X-Men have put me in a depression I do not think I will be able to get over for a while.

Dissapointment is the theme of the day...

You didn't like CW?

^Way to edit your post...
No offense but not shocked coming from you.

I don't really care I loved WS so I was shocked that with all the great reviews it wasnt a better film. That movie was one of the most dissapointing because everyone was making it seem like the second coming so I feel I went in with my hopes too high.

I left finding it a bit of a bore with terrible dialogue and inconsistencies.

A billionaire shows up at your doorstep and you just let him take your teenage nephew for an extended period of time (at least days)? [/BLACKOUT]

It was just really not as good as I expected.

If I'm being honest I'm not shocked either. Which is completely fine, by the way.

A billionaire superhero who has saved the world on numerous occasions takes your orphaned nephew under his wing to help foster his budding interest in science. What's wrong with that? This is really the first thing you're going to complain about?

Michael Jackson...

:drops mic:

But that's not what this thread is about. I might make my review in the review thread FF is. Anyway I wonder who should direct if and when a new film happens.

Well I'm not coming from you, no offense. And I edited it because I wanted to hear why you didn't like it rather than it be taken the wrong way. Make sense?

I appreciate it if that was the intention I thought it was to be even more condenseded rather than make it less.

If X-Men doesn't do well, that could have an affect on the Fantastic Four. So, it's unfortunate it's getting pretty mixed reviews

I actually think there's a good chance the FF pull a Spidey if Apocalypse doesn't do well. It's becoming obvious that the Spider-Man deal benefited Sony in a big way. Fox might want in on that action if they're in need of a boost to their credibility with their Marvel stuff.

Yeah, possibly. What's Feige's relationship like with the people at Fox? Wasn't he a producer on those original Fantastic 4 films? I think that could be something people are overlooking.

Actually, he's close friends with many of them. Feige worked his way up at Marvel by working on the early Fox Marvel adaptations. Tim Miller is close with Marvel people, too. He worked on Thor: The Dark World, and he was allowed to leave Civil War to do Deadpool. Miller threw a Feige Easter Egg into Deadpool. The problem seems to have generally been with executives on both sides more than the production teams. I don't know if there's a positive relationship with Kinberg, but this Apocalypse reception is making it clear that hack needs to go. He's fine as a producer, but he's a crap writer (let's not pretend DoFP had a good script, it was solid in spite of a mediocre script).

I'm hoping for FF to be a big part of Phase 4. Perhaps that indefinitely postponed Inhumans flick can become Fantastic Four: Journey to Attilan.

Your avatar is wonderful.

Thanks. Yeah, Fox needs to change something up with X-Men and I'm hoping Vaughn comes back to direct. I'd rather the FF come back to Marvel instead of making a Spider-Man type deal, but either way I'd be happy with them in the MCU where they belong.

My dream scenario would be FF returning outright, but I don't really care which studio distributes. Marvel has made it very clear recently that Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming is a Marvel Studios production being done FOR Sony by the Marvel crew. A Spider-Man deal means a Marvel production. Marvel needs full access to the characters for their franchises, though. Gunn needs those cosmic characters for the Guardians franchise (we'd have had the Negative Zone and proper Badoon in GotG had the license been with Marvel).

So will the bad Apocalypse reviews make Fox more likely to work with Marvel?

Is it possible that the reason rumors of cooperation have been heating up recently is Fox execs knew it was getting stale?

Like I said, at the very least they will get a call from Marvel with Marvel saying they are concerned about the crap they are putting out. Thing is Deadpool was great and this is the first XMen slip up in RT since pre disney acquisition. Marvel will ***** privately though, I feel pretty certain about it. They want all rights fully in house and have not hidden that desire. As we talked previously they most likely do have a right to get out of the contract if the 3rd party spits out a sub par product, which this seems to be.

If I'm being honest I'm not shocked either. Which is completely fine, by the way.

If Zuckerberg, Gates, Brin, Page, Musk, etc showed up at my sister's house and said, "Hey your son applied to do some research on my lab, and I was highly impressed, we're gonna take him to Silicon Valley/Seattle, I will be pushing the little out of the door.

There's no way Marvel would get the rights back based on Apocalypse not being a fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. They'd need to prove that Fox didn't put a serious effort into the film to even hope to win a legal battle, and you don't get there from some critics thinking the material is tired.

If anything I think Apocalypse's supposed debacle might help our cause.

It really might. It sucks if true (I'll wait to judge for myself) but if the quality is laking we are closer to the FF coming to the MCU.

Also:
no one will ever convince me that "oh a billionare who is constantly being attacked by supervillians wants to take you under his wing.... oh okay but be home before bedtime!" Makes any gd sense because it doesn't. Not to mention the Aunt May I grew up with never trusted costumed heroes. It was bad storytelling imo.

Not to mention that horrendously cheesy "revenge consumed you I won't let it consume me" ****. I cringed. Oh God that movie is more and more mediocre the more I think about it.:whatever:

That being said I did like Tom Holland as Spidey.

What I think is interesting is that just a couple weeks ago the talk seemed to really heat up about a "shared universe". Most of us dismissed the idea of that really including X-Men because it seemed that Fox had X-Men well in hand.

But I'm starting to think the people at Fox knew more than we did and they realized they needed to breathe some life into X-Men.

If I remember correctly, we also heard, about a week before FF that Fox and Marvel were close to a deal for the TV rights.

People behind the scenes are seeing these films before anybody else. If there are priblems, they know it sooner than the rest of us.

Not sure how much direct contact he has with Marvel, but he is a part of the Star Wars writing and producing team, so he does have strong Disney connections.

It will definitely be interesting to see what (if anything) shakes out of all of this.
