Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

I've only watched both Revelations.

I could have easily added them in my collection, but to their core, they are side games. Revelations 1 from my observation, was good though. I loved the giant fancy ship.

Sounds like remake for Ø and Code Veronica are indeed happening. I have Zerø for PlayStation 4 for a long time now but I never tried to play it because of the fiXed camera. While Code Veronica for the PS4 is digital only.

I can't wait for those two, hopefully they would be faithful to the original games. Though I hope there's less backtracking in Code Veronica. That game also has too much "items".

I just hope they announce something soon, it's been a year since Separate Ways, and seemingly they have a lot cooking.

This makes no sense to me. Why would they half-ass a remake for Code Veronica?

I don't think they are putting half the effort for those two.

They are probably going to be less demanding. RE0 is a short game, especially if there's now an item box. While Code Veronica, if you remove the excessive back tracking - is half the length of RE4.

This couldn't be worse than RE3R.

Why wouldn't they? That makes no sense. Then there's absolutely no point in remaking the games. Also, that leak offers next to no specifics. It's very vague.

Also, length has really nothing to do with ambition. Resident Evil: Code Veronica is a fantastic game and it's one of the best installments of the franchise for a reason. It was also really the last traditional Resident Evil game before they started switching things up in RE4.

Resident Evil Ø is a 4 to 5 hours game. For experts, its more or less 3hrs. Code Veronica is a bit longer.

Less ambitious doesn't automatically mean inferiority. Look at RE6, its one of the more ambitious games in the series yet its one of the worst rated in the series. Zerø is a prequel, and there's no need to make it as big in scope as RE4R. Rebecca is also a "rookie".

Code Veronica - Story wise, it kinda dragged with the back and forth to several locations. Sure, they could expand the role of the twins, the prison guard, Steve and Wesker, but imo it had one of the weaker stories out of the classic RE games. I'm not sure how a remake could improve by making it grander similar to Re4r? Imo, Code Veronica is the one game that could benefit from cutting out certain things. The og Re4 also had an expansion which Re4r remade as well, making the game longer.

First time I've ever heard Code Veronica called weak, *shrugs*. Most of what I recall at the time of its release was that it was a highly celebrated and acclaimed game and it was considered a high point of the franchise. Resident Evil 4 was also very successful but it took the franchise in a different direction as well which led to the mixed reactions of RE5 and RE6.

I mean you can probably speedrun through a lot of these games in a brief amount of time if you know what you're doing. I'm not really sure what Rebecca being a rookie has to do with it. RE0 is still a great game.

RE4 is an action game.

Also if you didn't notice, Rebecca had little to zero experience in RE1, yet in RE0 she literally killed hundreds of zombies. It didn't make sense for someone that was labeled as a "rookie". Most rookies wouldn't have survived. So I don't know why you would expect a REØ Remake to be as demanding as RE4R. Its just not realistic. There aren't making these remakes to be bigger than the last one especially the remakes aren't being released in chronological order.

Now instead, of disagreeing to everything I said. I would like you to point how the remakes of Code Veronica and Zero could be ambitious as RE4R. Are these remakes going to be three times longer than the original games. Are there going to be a story expansion like Separate Ways?

Yes, Code Veronica isn't as popular as the other classic games. RE1/2 are better imo. And 3 had the classic Nemesis.

You know who else was a rookie? LEON S. KENNEDY! It's literally his first day on the job and he's fresh out of the academy when he gets dropped into a zombie apocalypse. Claire Redfield isn't even a police officer. She's a 19 year-old-kid. Kennedy had absolutely no experience he's fighting and curb-stomping zombies and Umbrella monsters

These games aren't realistic and they've never strived for realism. Jill Valentine is the master of unlocking and almost became a jill sandwich.

As for how they could be ambitious, their settings alone are unique locations for the franchise and there's plenty they could do to have fun with it. You could also expand the playthroughs of Steve and Billy and show more of their backstories.

Leon and Claire are apples and oranges as Leon didn't act like Rebecca as a damsel and distress in his first game. Fighting zombies weren't in their resume for their first game but Leon and the rest including Claire, held themselves pretty well unlike Rebecca in RE1. Yet in RE0, she was already killing zombies before Jill and Chris.

As for expanding the story of Billy and Steve, expanding someone's story doesn't mean more ambitious though, that's just a natural progression when you're remaking something as they should offer something else to differ it from the original especially its been more than 20 years. You still haven't said how both remakes could be as ambitious as RE4R. And not all games need to be as ambitious as the last one or we wouldn't get a RE7 in its form. They would be hopping into several countries/continents if they wanted to be as ambitious as RE6.

I thought RE0 was pretty good and better based on the negativity I had heard about it. With that said it's unfortunate that it peaks early because the train section is by far the best and most memorable section and the atmosphere never gets as good as that part again. But overall a solid game, though not the longest one.

I've never played Code Veronica and I would gladly play a remake since I know people love it.

Re0's concept of a RE game in a moving train was a very cool idea. But too bad it didn't last long.

Also back then, I wanted a classic RE game set in a big yacht. That would have been dope.

Rebecca actually survived the whole mansion on her own and is not a damsel in distress.
