He'd be a second rate Joker at best.. and at worst a saw villan. I'm cool with Riddler being left out. Let's stick to some serious heavy villans.

This was the main reason I was personally against it. Besides the fact that I just never felt the Riddler (much like the Penguin) was ever a true threat to Batman on the scale that TDKR would need, his whole style is just too close to Nolan's Joker for it be really fresh.

Most of the Joker's attacks revolved around some sort of setup, where Batman had to decipher what was happening in a set amount of time before people died. Add to the fact that the Riddler isn't a killer, and it would have been a watered down rehash of things we already got. If the main argument, besides Heath's passing, against the Joker returning is a "more of the same" approach, then I just couldn't understand how people would see the Riddler being all that different, at least from how Nolan established this version of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Aside from that Penguin comment (He's my fav bat baddie), I agree with this completely. Riddler isn't a murderer, and if they made him one it would be too Joker or even worse (SAW killer). So unless they find a way to up the ante with him without just making him rack up a body count, I'm not too interested...

I've missed this gif. :woot:

It's not likely...but what if nolan is just screwing with us, and riddler actually is the villain? I think we'll find out who the villain is through the viral campaign.

Well if we are too assume he's screwing with us here then that could be applied to everything he's said about the villains so we may get Harv and Joker returning as well in that instance.

Don't be so sad... we could still cast Riddler for future Batman movies!

Something tells me we'll see a "Rise" of a fallen villain from previous films. Don't be shocked if Raas rises from the Lazarus Pit.

Which would be ok if he secretly sent a henchmen to do his dirty work like Sin Tzu or Kyodai Ken. And either character must be played by Gordon Liu (Kill Bill 1 & 2) if they appear in Rises...

You do know who the director of this film is, don't you? :oldrazz:

Also, what does this have to do with the Riddler?

Did Nolan say The Riddler wouldn't be in it or that he wouldn't be the villian? the Riddler's motivation is being the smartest, he could be working for the police in tracking Batman.

Hmm, my impression is that he wouldn't be the villain, which I guess means your idea is technically possible...

The way the interview is written leaves us kind of without the proper context to tell though.

Never mind. Just reread the article. He doesn't actually say Riddler won't be in it, but I won't waste my time in hoping for him in the movie. Would be a pleasant surprise, though

Nolan's lying! Didn't anyone see The Prestige? Borden uses a double! It's all smoke and mirrors! Don't listen to him! :cmad:

I think Nolan is a very clever guy. Most of the time he tries to give slippery answers, and we as fans try to look at every special hint he may give, even when he is not trying to give one.

I really hope to see some Riddler in "Rises" but it is not about what I want, is about WHAT'S FAIR! what Nolan thinks serves to the story. If that means no Riddler then so be it.

I am guessing he is not going with the conventional superhero formula "hero vs villian" since he is ending his take on Batman. Maybe he is planning something that none of us expect, that will have coherence with the material already seen and worth telling.

The way Nolan stated it was not Riddler is not THE villain.

Which may mean he is NOT the ONLY villain in the film.

Perhaps Riddler is one of many antogonists?

Yes. After a while it gets to be like holding onto the idea that Two-Face is still alive. And I must admit that I used to be one of those folks, but eventually, I had to face reality. :o

So long to this thread, maybe after the dark knight rises. We can bring it back :D

This is a sincere question but what makes everyone believe strongly that The Riddler will even be used? How do we know Nolan won't go for a lesser known villian this time and make him or her popular on a grand scale?

The Riddler just doesn't seem to work for any epic closing to The Dark Knight's sequel. Pulling strings from behind the curtains of Gotham City, or Zodiac style is boring and overdone. I'd like to make a friendly wager that The Riddler won't even be used, and if he is used, it will be WB wanting Nolan to erase the past idiotic and disgusting performance helmed by Jim Carrey.

A lot of people probably thought you were crazy for posting this several months ago, but you turned out to be right. Apparently.

I'd still have been interested in what Nolan could have done with Riddler. I wonder if he just automatically said no to him or gave it some consideration before moving on.

In any case it does feel like with Riddler striked out, Two Face dead, and Joker not returning(dammit), Catwoman is the only a-list villain left.
