I expect the same to happen on RT's user rating since it always happens. It seems these groups zero in on one or two movies a year to gang up on and review bomb. Last year it was BP; this year it'll be CM and likely SW IX.It's opening week, I don't think it will make much difference. Anyone interested is going to see it anyway and thanks to their previous attempt with RT, most are now aware of what they are trying to do and won't take the ratings seriously.
Thor has 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. I really like Thor (obviously not as much as Ragnorok). If we're comparing the new generation to the last, Marvel's foundations remain extremely stable. Iron Man was the breakout character in the first generation and the energy around his franchise created the MCU's momentum while Thor and First Avenger built the MCU. Black Panther created a huge amount of energy and now Captain Marvel is creating the world (and will probably get a Winter Soldier or Ragnorok later).
The thing is it is totally visible when there are such a massive number of 1/10 ratings. If they went with 2, 3, 4 or 5 out of 10 and mixed it up a bit it wouldn’t be so obvious.I expect the same to happen on RT's user rating since it always happens. Color me not surprised trolls are busy trying to review bomb the IMDB user score. They've been trying to do that with BP, IW, and a couple other MCU films before. And the M/F breakdown of the voters is 3.6K M to around 405 F. Talk about some male insecurity.
Just give em a little good will hunting-They just can't get over BvS and Justice League, can they? I just want to hold them down, start telling them over and over again, "It's okay...you can like both"...repeatedly, until they break down crying and screaming, "NOBODY TOLD ME IT WAS OKAY!!"
Right. Critics are just normal people and they shouldn't influence your opinion. I do like hearing some of their opinions, though. But I noticed that doesn't really have a lot to do with my question of wondering how general reception would be if Endgame weren't around the corner. I just wonder if some of these people are being a little easier on Captain Marvel because A) It's Marvel Studios or B) Endgame is a month away and will probably be a critical darling. Maybe it's neither of those options, but it is food for thought.
Personally, I would've loved for this film to be Marvel's Wonder Woman for everyone. The energy with this movie just feels different, and not necessarily in a positive way. I know that's asking for a lot, but it is Marvel. Look at what's been achieved. Again, we have an incredible, energy-fueled release right around the corner that dwarfs anything most movies have achieved with Endgame. Just wish they would've handled this film with more care, because it could have achieved greatness. That's strictly going off of what I've been seeing and hearing, though.
Marvel has been trying to make her their Wonder Woman for the last few years, and so far it hasn't worked. Probably because Carol Danvers is far from being a role model. That doesn't mean that she can't work as an inspirational figure, but she can be one in the same way Tony Stark is.I read a great take the other day from a fan elsewhere in that it simply comes down to CM perhaps not having hook Marvel needed. CM is a character they're trying to fit into a role.
Just give em a little good will hunting-

Yeah making Carol pop has been difficult
even under Deconnick (sp?) it's never been a top-seller
(And Civil War II was a huge setback for the character's likeability)
I personally have been trying to like Carol for years and just can't get into it
but I'm not into Guardians or Black Panther either and those movies made me love them, so I'm hoping the same happens with CM
Nah I did like Deconnick's Carol quite a bit, but then Civil War 2 came along and made her a total a**hole
my point was just that it didn't sell spectacularly, even then
If you guys didn't like that ray of sunshine that was DeConnick's Carol then I doubt you'll like movie Carol. Movie Carol is barely even a character.
