The Dark Knight The "See You In December" Thread

Notable examples of viral marketing

* The Dark Knight has released two teaser website pages; one features a faux campaign poster for District Attorney Harvey Dent, and the other both features a defaced version of the poster, (ostensibly by The Joker,) and, through an email code game, slowly revealed the first official picture of The Joker.

So one of the websites has warnerbros in it, but the other doesn't, yet they are both viral marketing coming from warnerbros.

You just helped me further my point.

"See you in December"

hey.... that was in the "fake" casting sides wasnt it? the one released last?

heh, maybe it wasnt such a fake after all :joker:

the report said that in December we should be getting a trailer with Joker in it. but that's just for the Joker. we could be getting a teaser with just a logo and some rockin soundtrack/ voice over that can be attached with any movie coming out this summer. to not advertise any future projects this summer movie season will be a missed opportunity, specially this season where all the big franchises are releasing their movies one after the other.

Why would Warner Bros put their name in the links of the I Believe In Harvey Dent & Dark Knight internet, but not on this one? Simple logic.

Warner Bros. trademark all of their work, even if only with a name in their link. IBIHDT has no trace of any trademarking by WB, or anything that can even back up the fact that this thing is actually real.

Maybe b/c it would do exactly what they intended it to do - cause a controvery over its legitimacy and put the hype for the film in overdrive.

I'm not saying the site is legit or not. I am saying that there's definitely a reason why WB would be so vague about its ownership - to court attention for the film by having its authenticity and contents scrutinized by fanboys. Which is exactly what's happening.

Game Player, future generations will surely consider you the biggest ****** who ever replied on a messageboard. You are a ******. You are a stupid ******.

I'm the ******, yet I prove you all wrong and all you can do is bash.

A bit of irony there.

It actually seems that the only place here for people to have unjust opinions of the Sanctuary thread.

ROFL i never laughed so hard at a post jason u are going in my sig lol

This is fun, I love the marketing for this it totally kicks ass compared to most other advirtising that goes on for movies...

"the sites are registered to a company who does viral marketing campaigns, if you think it's fake, you're a god damn ******"

You are the "god damn ******". Crazy isn't? Why would Warner Bros put their name in the links of the I Believe In Harvey Dent & Dark Knight internet, but not on this one? Simple logic.

HAVE WB DENIED IT? NO!!!

If you don't believe its Legit then go e-mail Jett over at BOF he'll set ya straight.

Well this confirms the Joker pic 100%:(......Still this is a genius marketing scheme, not sure what this new December thing will lead us to but i hope we get some footage before December

Game Player, honestly, just because the site is not registered to WB does not mean it's fake. I believe the same company doing this viral marketing has also done so for Halo 2 (hired by Microsoft of course) and a few others. The purpose of this viral marketing is to give the illusion that the Joker is doing this, it would detract from it by blatantly having WARNERBROS. in the the domain name, the Heath Ledger pic is real, there's too much resources involved here for it to be fake, if it was you can bet that WB would deny it almost right away especially considering the hype it has generated. Just sitting there and saying it's fake because of the domain name makes you look silly thus the insults, think through it a bit more critically, I'm not saying your dumb or anything, but the domain name not being there bandwagon passed a while ago, it's been discussed to death. It's real, end of story as Jett quaintly put it on BOF.

i believe they will have a teaser trailer earlier without mr.j and in december it may be the first theatrical trailer
wut do u guys think

Who says the pic is fake is lower the IQ of the rest of the board! GET OVER IT. Thats the Joker....Denial isnt just a river in Egypt!!!!

Bloody good marketing.
indeed

What did the "fake" casting side say, anyways?
i'm having a heckuva time looking for it, all i have are the first set of sides that were released. anyway, that last one had a supposed Joker and a goon wreaking havoc in the Batcave mocking what should be supposed Alfred, then Joker spots the batmobile. its a setup very similar to what we saw in Batman Forever, hence some folks thinking its a fake, plus the script writing wasnt as good as what was in the previous sides. but the most curious thing was the starting letter of each dialogue stood for each letter in "SEE YOU IN DECEMBER".

in the light of these recent developments i'm starting to think that its this marketing gig, 42entertainment, that released that last casting side.

Yep, December will be the time it actually opens. Maybe a few fake sites until then. Maybe a Wayne Enterprises site also with Joker vandalism and whatnot. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Hell....there might even be a fake trailer....we think it's the movie and it's really Joker laughing into the camera for a moment before shooting it or something. I would be very content with a fake trailer like that though. :D

you have proven nothing. stand down before you really embarrass yourself. you are out of your league here. you know that scene in die hard where john mcclain realizes they are going to kill his wife's coked up pal ellis and ellis doesn't know? im john mcclain in this scenario.
hang up the phone.

I had completely forgotten about that side because I had dismissed it at the time. Wasn't it released on April Fool's Day?

If so, then I'm even more excited about the build up to this movie. It seems like they have a real plan for the marketing that goes beyond the usual fast food tie-ins.

I'm still not crazy about the look in the picture, but I love the tone they're establishing for TDK.

Could be related to the Long Halloween. Try putting in some domains for months into a whois site to see if anything comes up. Each month or stuff related to the holidays of those stories. Only thing I can think of right now.

The titles of each issue were:
Crime
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Years
Valentine's Day
St. Patrick's Day
April Fools Day
Mother's Day
Father's Day
Independence Day
Roman Holiday
Labor Day
Punishment

In TLH The Joker did attck in Christmas.

sasquatchs already posted the side in the main Joker reveal thread, but here's a repost:
