Actually I'm surprised by the numbers of Killzone 2. Only 300,000 for the month of March. Considering MGS4 did 1.3 million the first day or something?

Yep. Metal Gear, while a niche series, has some considerable gravitas behind it. Killzone on the other hand, has a pretty poor history. Killzone 1 was generally considered to be mediocre at best. Even Killzone 2 had a very rocky start at Sony's infamous E3 showing; A pre-rendered trailer that Sony was trying to pass off as actual gameplay. Of course after being "tricked" people justifiably had bitter feelings towards Sony, Guerilla, Killzone 2, and the PS3 in general. Not to mention that Killzone has had a pretty weak marketing campaign overall.

It's a wonder that Killzone 2 has managed to sell as well as it has with all that negativity behind it.

Yeah, as said, MGS4 was a blockbuster of a game. It's like comparing the ticket sells of The Dark Knight to Iron Man. They both did fine, but Dark Knight had way more fans and came out to incredible expectations and exceeded them all for most people. Not the best of analogies, but you get it.

And, as Pandamar said, despite the hype, KZ2 had a lot to work against. Myself I was very skeptical of it until I finally broke down and played it myself. Also, LittleBigPlanet was in a similar situation, it didn't do so great in it's first months, but it really ended up being an evergreen title and has a very solid community base now

I still havent purchased KZ2 yet, i plan too, but itll be a while with all the good games coming out.

Me, neither. I borrowed it from a friend. I doubt I'll ever actually buy it myself, but it is a great game, as good as Halo and Gears to me. The multiplayer is really fun, too.

I thnk Id still put Gears over KZ2, if for nothing else than Gears' co-op. Had KZ2 had co-op, i prolly would have bought it day one. I also really hate the PS3's controller for FPS's. From what iv played of KZ2, tho, the game just immerses you in the world like few games do. Dont know if the game brings anything new to the table, but what it does bring is really solid. The more i think and talk about it, the more i want to run out and buy it. Damn you Wolverine and Ghostbusters and Batman!!!

It's about the same as Gears for me. I wasn't as wowed by Gears as most seem to be.

I think it was the first really good co-op game i played on the next gen systems. Im a bigger co-op fan because of it.

Yeah, it was good co-op. Just the game never really blew me away like it seemed to everyone else. I had a friend who went outright ape**** about it and after we were done he was proclaiming it the best game is years. Never saw that personally

Yea, im not ready to proclaim it best game in years, but for me, at the time it was something fresh. A really fun, cover based third person shooter.

Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) 938K

Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS) 805K

Halo Wars (Xbox 360) 639K

Resident Evil 5 (PS3) 585K

Wii Fit w/Balance Board (Nintendo Wii) 541K

MLB '09: The Show (PS3) 305K

Killzone 2 (PS3) 296K

Wii Play w/Remote (Nintendo Wii) 281K

Mario Kart w/Wheel (Nintendo Wii) 278K

Major League Baseball 2K9 (Xbox 360) 205K

I'm surprised Resident Evil did better than Killzone 2 as well as MLB '09 the show having similar numbers.

Also surprised about how well Halo Wars did especially since it's a Strategy game.

A strategy game with "Halo" in the title. :cwink:

That's the key.

It wasn't even marketed as a strategy game. As far as I remember, the commercials never showed any actual gameplay footage. Only cutscenes. Smart business, but I would be very interested to know what the return ratio is on that game.

Because I imagine this is probably the general reaction from Average Joe Gamer who only plays Halo and Madden...

You're surprised RE5 did better? Really? I mean I actually am a little surprised that the numbers for RE5 aren't a little bigger those. Big franchise, lots of hype.

I wouldn't have expected MLB '09, but I can't say it was all that surprising, Baseball still a pretty popular sport and there's a lot of people who just buy sports games.

You're trying too much to compare KZ2 to other games. It's nearly got a 1 million sold units now and by the end of the year it's not a stretch to say it'll probably have a sold near 2 million copies with a solid community. It was never going to be a mega blockbuster game like Halo or Gears, most people who said that were simply fulling themselves, but it's still going to be successful and have a good lifespan

And a license to print money. You could slap the MGS name on anything and it would sell.

I don't agree with that on MGS. MGS probably has as many haters as it does fans. It's a series you either get, or don't. Ppl who have played MGS4 typically praise it as one of the best games ever. However I've seen just as much hate on it from ppl who say they tried the first game, never got into it, and don't understand the love for it.

Mario, now that's a money printer. When you can make a game about Mario as a baby, or cooking, or whatever, it sells like hotcakes, that's a money printer. Ppl would not buy "MGS: Babies", "MGS: Tennis", or "MGS: Let's Cook!" (something to that effect).

Halo's a money printer too, IMO. Halo 2 wasn't as well received as the first, yet ppl beat eachother to death, and stood in lines for days to get the 3rd game. Ppl buy novels, action figures, anything Halo related by the truck.

Not to say some don't buy because it's MG, but not like a FF or something.

I only picked GTA4 because I haven't had the honor to play the superior MGS4

I got to play MGS4. Terrible. Graphics, sound, voice acting(waaay over zealous), physics... all terrible. They even kept the stupid box and icons over enemy heads thing. I know I sound like I'm just playing devils advocate, but it was truly the WORST game I have ever played. Ever.

The best game on the PS3 last year was Dead Space. Easy.

Dead Space is awesome, but...MGS4, the worst game you've ever played? Please.

:whatever:

...

No, wait. That wasn't good enough...

Ahh...that's better.:woot:

Ok, I know you're just baiting for a flame here, but really, the graphics and the sound were terrible? They're some of the best of this generation even a year later. I mean, really man, really.

Haha, hes not serious. No one is that clueless.

Haha, don't worry guys. I'm sure DACMAN does really think that, but he has always been that legendarily biased. Best game on PS3 last year WAS MGS4, with Valkyria Chronicles finishing a close second... (and Dead Space an even closer 3rd for me).

No, it's because it's overrated.

Stop. Just stop. You don't believe that. You don't honestly think the game has poor visuals, poor sound etc etc. You might not like the game, which is fine but you dont believe its of poor quality. You are just saying that so you can come off as "someone who knows better". You arent fooling anybody.
