Animation The Simpsons

Series Finale?

Cut down in it's prime. They never let a show find an audience these days.

Lady Gaga sings Homer's and Marge's song.

I'd prefer that Fox just lets Julie Kavner retire. Seriously, have you heard Marge's voice as of recent?

It's painful and I just feel sad for Kavner. None of the cast sound as they did in the 80s or 90s. That would be impossible. But Kavner? I just want her to rest her vocal chords finally.

The thing is, they could all retire right now and their great grandchildren would be set for life. It's an easy paycheck for all of them. I could see Kavner wanting to retire but also feeling tied down to the show since Marge is one of the central characters.

I’ve seen people say the same about Castellaneta, but I haven’t noticed it with him quite as strongly as Kavner.

They're gonna be in panic mode when the main cast members start to throw in the towel.
We’ve seen so many long-running animated shows keep on trucking with new voice actors and theoretically, Simpsons should be no different, but… honestly, the show’s best days are so far behind it, wouldn’t it be a bit more worthwhile to just give them a final send-off?

They’ve certainly earned it.

Or. Or. They'll keep going and replace them with sound-a-likes. :o

Oh I've considered that too. If Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny have had a number of voice actors over the years then The Simpsons can too, but I guess it's just different because of the nature of the show.

Mel Blanc played Bugs up until he died, IIRC.

Oh, I'm sure it applies to all of the cast. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa...none of them sound the same and you can tell that this isn't the Tracey Ullman show. Except for Maggie. For some reason, she's been spot on from the start to now.

But I think it's stronger with Kavner because you can hear the strain. Homer, Bart, and Lisa definitely sound different, but it doesn't seem like they're straining to say lines. I can't imagine those voices do a number on their vocal chords the way it sounds for Julie Kavner.

First of all, LOL at the Maggie comment.

But yeah, it's been apparent that Kavner's been struggling with the Marge voice over the past decade. She doesn't sound too far off from Patty and Selma now.

My biggest pet peeve is the show is determined to not let Lisa have friends.

How could you forget Janey, who might be the least developed recurring character with speaking lines in the show? :o

They keep forgetting her existence along with her rival.
I'm surprised that they even brought her back as a background character since celebrity guest star characters are usually one and done unless it's a Sideshow Bob or a Fat Tony or the Phil Hartman characters from back in the day.

Maggie Roswell still does occasional voice work for The Simpsons, right? Since Fox probably isn't going to pay Winona Ryder to come back, they could just have Roswell voice Allison.

Ralph? They can still bee friends, right? And it's been years since I've watched, but does Lisa still have the on-and-off friendship with Nelson? Post "Lisa's Date with Density," they've occasionally interacted on a friendship level. There has to be some certain circumstance for Lisa to interact with someone: a girl is as good on the saxophone as her, she gets a pen pal from Brazil, or she's invited to join Mensa. But it's always temporary. Lisa's never really had many friends outside of...well, Marge.
