I suppose this would be a good place to start a ska discussion.

I never really got into ska until my senior year of high school, but that was essentially a love for Aquabats and Mustard Plug. I got into roots by the time I started college (about a month ago) and I'll be damned if The Specials and The [English] Beat aren't the best ska bands ever.

Anyone else have an affection for this subgenre?

I'm a big ska fan. I listen predominately to third wave ska, but I like the others too. Unfortunately, there aren't many ska albums made these days. I think the only ones I've heard from this year are Less Than Jake's tour EP (which is good; they're one of my favorite bands) and Big D and the Kids Table's recent album (which was just OK; they used to be much better).

I never necessarily considered Big D & The Kids Table ska, so much as they are pop-punk, but hey I could be wrong.

Mustard Plug released a pretty decent album in '03, but unfortunately nothing since then. Aquabats's Hi Five Soup wasn't half bad either, but I prefer Charge! and Return Of The Aquabats! much more. Those are like modern ska classics, similar to Reel Big Fish's first release.

While we're on the subject, I'm seeing Mustard Plug live in Jermyn, Pa this November with my roommates. Very excited!

Actually, Mustard Plug released the album "In Black and White" in 2007. I think it's their second best album after "Evildoers Beware." I've seen them twice live since then and both were among the better live shows I've been to.

I haven't listened to "Hi-Five Soup," but it's the Aquabats, so I'm sure it's at least solid. "Fury of the Aquabats" is one of my favorite ska albums.

I'm partial to two-tone and skinhead stuff. The Trojan comps are essential.

Symarip, the Specials, the Skatellites, Judge Dread.

Of the new bands the Aggrolites are probably the best there's been in 15 years.
