i understand you guys. i undertand that when it comes to cartoon adaptations that they change a lot of times everything. i also understand that complaining is on SHH like a reflax.

Saw Scooby Doo, nothing about that film made me want to purchase it and add it to my collection. It was alright, but no need for repeat viewings, and don't get me started on Garfield......CRAP right there. After those two films, nothing in the Chipmunk trailers for either film made me interested in seeing those, except for the dude that plays Earl in "My Name Is Earl", but if he's not playing Earl, I don't care

In "Alvin and the chipmonks" defense i thought jason lee as dave was inspired casting, and i though the scene where they first recorded christmas time was very well done, everything else however, was a disaster. same with scooby doo (i have issues with that i won't get into 'cause i don't want to go to far off topic) any way, even here, great casting (Hank Azaria, Neil patrick Harris i always welcome) but the execution looks to be completely wrong.

Same here. It was bad enough with Garfield and AATC, and Hank Azaria looks terrible as Gargamel in that photo. Accurate, yes, but something tells me he's gonna suck....

I don't see why they don't try to just capitalize on the whole 3D fad right now and have the movie take place in the Smurf's world. No disrespect to the actual city or state, but damnit, I'm freaking sick of New York

I think Azaria looks pretty accurate as Gargamel myself; although in this pic his face looks a little 'plastic'. Maybe so he won't scare the kiddy audience so much..? we'll see. Maybe it's the lighting.

I'm wondering if they stay true to the Smurfette origin in the movie; in that she was created by Gargamel to infiltrate the Smurf colony. Smurf's are asexual anyway so they don't have reproductive organs inside those little white pants, so all the 'Smurfette does Smurf-Town' jokes that have been told over all these year are pretty irrelevant.

I like animated movies as much as anyone, but saying that they "rape your childhood" if they are not what you expect them to be is a bit over-dramatic (just a bit).

they could've avoided the whole "disney's enchanted" route and kept it in the realm of the smurf villiage

but thats just my opinion
azaria looks like gargamel... and he is a good voice actor so no problems there

the fact that it isn't just fully CGI is beyond me, I'm really not liking the direction they are taking with this film. They could have did like Polar Express and used Azaria's likeness to portray Gargamel and still keep the whole movie CGI

Gargamel is purusing some Smurfs and they fall into a magic portal ( or something like that ) to our world. I don't remember where I read that, maybe in a previous post on this thread.

I liked the Smurfs when I was a kid but I no longer care and furthermore I don't feel this movie at all, I expect a failure.
Also, the Smurfs is a dead franchise here in France, they are still some figures collectors but that's it.
