*sigh* Well, looks like the *****ebag mad scientist from the cartoon's DEFINITELY in this. He's being played by Hank Azaria. Wait, WHAT?!

Take a look at the above comparison pic I just found for a sec (Azaria on the left, Gargamel on the right). I honestly don't think Azaria looks ANYTHING like Gargamel. Besides, I don't think that he can pull it off anyway; he's too competent. This is the one role I'd HONESTLY say Will Ferrel should've been cast for because Ferrel can play an idiot without fail and both are complete man-children!

What do you guys think of this weird casting?

How so? I know that Azaria can be funny given the right roles; "The Birdcage" is proof of that. However, I don't think he fits the bill for Gargamel, hence my bit about the picture in my last post. Why do you think he'd be perfect as an *****ebag mad scientist with an evil cat who wants to kidnap the Smurfs for some unknown reason? And yeah, I've watched the original cartoon; that's what Gargamel was like on there! That, and the cartoon sucks, no offense. t:

Of course he is. Gargamel is like the ONLY enemy the Smurf's have. It'd be a crime not to use him. He wasn't a scientist, he was a Sorcerer. And he rocked.

It says he's voicing Gargamel, so how is it weird casting? He's used to doing voices so I don't see what the problem is. He voices half of the Simpsons characters anyways.

Oh and Hank Azaria is playing a live action Gargamel. That's really too bad as he would have been a better voice Gargamel.

the original Smurf animated movie was pretty cool back in the day IMO. The animation was better than the tV show IMO. Plus it was set in a LOTR type of setting. Why set it in modern day NYC? I mean...WTF. They're only going to do that so they can inject modern pop culture phrases and ****.

He's not going to be CG, Azaria is playing him live. Probably with some makeup work or something.
