The Smurfs...heading to the big-screen!

i am asking because i thought that this would be a 100% CGI movie like pixar's movies. i didnt know that they would use actors.

who was cast?

It will basically be like every other live action/CG movie. The Smurfs will be CG, and the humans will be live action. Small Soldiers, Alvin and the Chipmunks, etc.

There's not many human characters in The Smurfs. The only essential one is Gargamel.

will they use CGI enviorments and film it with greenscreen?

They won't do that, considering the budget for CG. They'll stick Johann and Peewit in there, as well as have scenes at the castle and what not.

Live-action? Fantastic.

This can't be as good as the ROBOT CHICKEN Smurfs sketch where Gargamel finally catches them.

They should put in Big Mouth as well :hehe:

God, I hope this won't be a fart/toilet humor fest. The original Smurfs cartoons was so wholesome.

I just pray that it isnt like the Garfield movie in any way.

Well, Gosnell has exp. with Hanna Barbera movies, so whatever. They mentioned before they wanted this to be somewhat in the vein of an LOTR type flick with a little more humor added, but who knows how they'll do it.

How come no one is vomiting over this? :(

Armchair Casting Director: 'The Smurfs Movie'
Jul 27, 2009, 02:42 PM | by Michael Ausiello

The A.C.D. is taking a rare detour to movieland to bring you exclusive scoop on (natch) The Smurfs Movie – specifically, details about the two lead roles currently being cast. Beware, the following info contains plot spoilers...

SOPHIE: A pre-teen girl who possesses enormous smarts and great imagination, but who is socially and physically clumsy. She discovers that the doll her dad brought home from Belgium is actually a living, breathing Smurf. And not just any Smurf -- Clumsy Smurf! Sophie tries to get her mom and dad to embrace Clumsy as a member of the family, but ultimately realizes what he really wants is to reunite with his fellow Smurfs.

Armchair Casting Director suggests Michael Ausiello for this role.

SAM: Sophie's 15-year-old brother. He's a good kid, but has a tendency to be difficult and withdrawn. He gets involved in helping Clumsy return home and, as a result, bonds with his sister.

Armchair Casting Director also suggests Michael Ausiello for this role.

BTW, JoBlo picked up the story, so I guess it's not all that unconceibable...

EDIT: double post

Note to Hollywood. Smurfs is LOTR for 5 year olds ... NOT ****ING HANNAH MONTANA!!!

where did they say that they want to cast hannah montana?

i'd be down with a lotr style smurf movie

not fussed on the "daddy brings home a smurf" story

I don't expect much more from this than a cheesy fun time at the movies anyways. Raja Gosnell essentially did that with the Scooby Doo Movies too. I expect something similar to those in feel.

Oh what the hell...

I was hoping for something close to the cartoon... like Darkness Falls said, a light-hearted LOTR or Hobbit-style film, not Small Soldiers 2. F**k this movie.

when will people realize that hollywood doesnt want those fantasy characters as main characters .
humans will always be the importan parts of the story and smurfs,transformers,..... the side characters.

There's a difference here, though. Transformers always had Sam and other humans who were central to the story, and at least in the 80's TV series, it took place in our world.

Smurfs took place in a fairy tale world with only a few human characters. And if the film was all CGI, it COULD work... just look at Shrek or multiple films by Pixar.

Hell, look at Avatar, which I know you're a fan of. I know there are human actors, but the majority of that film will focus on CGI aliens. Yet the film is still being made and will probably be a blockbuster.

yes you are right. but hollywood is hollywood. they are stupid. they are stuuuuuupid.

Avatar is different because its JC(titanic) . when you make so much money the studio will greenlight everything. the same with Nolan. FOX doesnt want Avatar and they dont have faith in the movie. the same with WB and Inception IMO.

i want a movie only with Smurfs. kids and adults would handle it. but studios are stupid.
