The Smurfs...heading to the big-screen!

That Smurf looks ****ing horrifying.

This confuses me. It's set in the present, in New York, but they haven't changed Gargamel's look at all? That's quite a clash in terms of visuals.

This seems like it's going to be this decades answer to the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie.

On the one hand, it reeks of laziness in not wanting to devote the film completely to the world the characters originally inhabited.

On the other, it's a vain and tired cliche where the filmmakers think they're being oh so clever by taking the characters and putting them in the real wold to show how everyone reacts to them. Which only serves to diminish their significance in the context of the film.

So basically on both hands, this sounds pretty bad. :hehe:

To be fair, Hank Azaria as Gargumel is genius casting. Especially considering the fact that he's a veteran voice actor for animation. He can create a voice that helps him make Gargumel his own, while not just trying to blatantly mimic the original voice actor.

Hank looks good as Gargumel. BTW, does Gargumel have a social life besides being so obsessed with the Smurfs?

Azaria looks perfect as Gargamel. All he's missing is his net to catch them in.

He had a nephew called Scrupel, I remember. But I think he just used him as a tool to capture Smurfs lol.

So does Gargumel has OCD? He must have a mental disorder of some sort.

so smurfs and gargamel in the modern New York. really? again in new york?

I'm sure there's a logical explanation for all of this.

A. The smurfs and Gargamel got transported into another dimension.

B. In this script Gargamel is a schizophrenic homeless person who thinks he's a wizard and while hallucinating sees rodents as 5 inch blue creatures.

C. Gargamel is an out of work 50 year old aspiring model(Ugly Models R Us club) who decides to make a unique fashion publicity stunt by wearing rinkly red socks and a crumbled black gown in public.

D. The writers wrote this script while drunk at 2:00am in the morning.

.
The smurfs and gargamel start off in medival times (there home land) and then get transported to new york thats why hes dressed the way hes dressed. this is the first pic we've seen who knows he might change his clothes later on in the movie. For me i hope he dosen't i like the look and it sets up for great comedy.

Like I said before: This decades answer to Rocky and Bullwinkle.

LET IT BE KNOWN: Every 10 years we shall have a movie of beloved cartoon characters transported to the real world...

2020: Wacky Races with Jessica Alba as Penelope Pitstop :cwink:

This is probably gonna be great for the kids, but i just don't know why they didn't make it all CG like Shrek. It's probably gonna be on par with the recent 'Garfield' and 'Alvin & the Chipmonks' movies.

At least they kept the Smurfs' design intact. Lets hope they keep the Mushroom houses too.

Not like we will be seeing that much of Smurf village in the movie.

Option D seems very likely.

Raja Gosnell's directing credits include:

Home Alone 3
Scooby-Doo
Beverly Hills Chihuahua

So, no, I have no faith in this movie.
