The Smurfs...heading to the big-screen!

Why does it look like one of those fake trailers in front of Tropic Thunder?

There's a key difference though: if any of those fake trailers were actually made into real movies, I'd go see them.

Well, this movie isn't mean for the adult crowd obviously..

Yeah, I agree. It almost seems like a massive case of cognitive dissonance when so many adults online freakout about how horrible this kids movie looks. Well, of course it does- they're not marketing it to adults, and its not made for adults! I'm sure some people will use the BS excuse that kids movies were better when they were kids, but that's nonsense- they simply forgot the terrible ones. I could name a few horrible family movies that came out when I was a kid that I dragged my parents to.

This movie may not be aimed towards adults, but honestly any or all people who had any interest in the Smurfs becoming live action ARE adults. That's like if they decide to make a Hucklberry Hound or a Yogi Bear film, no little kid nowadays are going to care. I don't remember Josie and the Pussycats or Rocky and Bullwinkle being a smash hit amongst the little ones.

The chimpmunks are about a group of musical animals, they have been update many, many times before. The movie was nothing more than an update from the 80s, and the 80s from the 50s. What we have with the Chimpmunks is a franchise that was free to evolve with the times. You can't have that with these other movies and expect to keep the same charm or essence of the cartoon. How would it have looked if they had thrown the Flintstones into a portal that transported to modern times? How did Scooby-Doo and Rocky&Bullwinkle look with this approach.

I'd like to see Steven Seagal star in the "C**k Puncher" movie that was constantly being advertised throughout The Onion Movie.

True, but just because a movie isn't meant for adult adiences doesn't mean they should do a half assed job of making it either. Kids can spot badly made movies just as easily as adults. Sometimes even easier, as some adults think that a kid will like anything as long as it's animated. I've watched movies with my neices and nephews, and that's not always the case.

All I can think about is how great a Pixar Smurfs movie would've been.

Getting tired of the fish out of water themes for these flicks.Better film if they stayed in their own world.

I agree with all of you guys that making this take place in New York City is a big mistake.

Brainy ? That is the US name of The Great Smurf / Le Grand Schtroumph ??

Yeah, we call him Brainy over here. :o My favorite one out of all of them.

This "Looney Toon" name remove all aura of greatness and wisdom to him...it's like calling Gandalf the White, Whitey :)

But he ain't all that wise, that's the joke. He's kind of a jerk.

Who's the one in the back doing the b-boy stance?
