EXCLUSIVE: Fox has bought The Spectre, a drama series project based on the DC Comics superhero character co-created by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily. Brandon Camp (John Doe) will write the adaptation and executive produce with feature producer Bill Gerber (Gran Torino). The Spectre, which has received a script commitment, centers on a former cop serving time in afterlife limbo who hunts down earthly criminals on behalf of the dead — and mortals soon to be dead, if ultimate justice is not served. DC Entertainment’s sister TV studio Warner Bros. TV will produce with Gerber Pictures. The Spectre character first appeared in an 1940 issue of DC’s More Fun Comics. Since then, he has been featured in a number of other DC titles and has headlined his own comic book series. Camp was introduced to The Spectre property by DC Comics’ chief creative officer Geoff Johns. The project marks Camp’s return to TV and reunion with Fox; he co-created the network’s 2002 mystery drama John Doe. On the feature side, UTA-repped Camp co-wrote and directed the 2009 Jennifer Aniston movie Love Happens. The Spectre also puts Fox back in the comic book adaptation business and reunites the network with DC following their recent collaboration on Human Target.

I hope this doesn't get canceled. :csad:

pretty cool find i hope it happens and turns out well.

I've always felt The Spectre was tailor-made for episodic television.

I hate the Spectre. It'll be like an all powerful Dexter who tortures his victims in more imaginative ways. Ugh... count me out.

More excited for Deadman, but this might be good too.

Spectre came first... So Dexter's more like a not-that-powerful less imaginative Spectre.

Whatever, I still hate the Spectre. After reading many stories involving him in the comics, it really put me off from the character. He almost destroyed magic and was manipulated by a madwoman because he didn't have a host. I don't consider him a superhero at all, he's more of a supervillain in my eyes.

I'm only familiar with The Spectre due to that DC Showcase short. He may have also appeared in Batman The Brave and the Bold in the Chill of the Night episode. I think that was him...

It was him. That was the episode that made me want a Spectre/ Phantom Stranger series with Terry O'Quinn as Spectre and Michael Emerson as Phantom Stranger.

Fox? Are they still in the business of canceling shows after the pilot?

Ugh. Fox-bashing is wearing thin for me. Five or six years ago, I probably would've joined in on the fun, but now it's getting old.

...So I'll take that as a "yes"?

I love The Spectre.

But I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the crew here --- the producer of Juwanna Mann and the Dukes of Hazzard remake? And a writer who created a short-lived TV show that disappeared 9 years ago?

I'll wait 'n' see, but I'm not holding my breath for any miracles.

So now we're gonna have 2 series based on DC characters with basically the exact same plot?

ugh

Eric Kripke was behind "Boogeyman" but managed to create "Supernatural". There's always room for a second chance.

I like the Corrigan Spectre and the Ostrander run which was epic. I never like Hal spectre or even Allen. I like the character a lot with the right writer

I thought Hal Jordan was the Spectre?

Gary Cole, who voiced the character in DC SHOWCASE: THE SPECTRE, would be awesome for this.

Oh yeah.

I love DC's horror characters.
