The Standard - A Comic Written By ME!

Check out The Buy Pile on Comic Book Resources this week: The Standard #2 gets a mention!

That's pretty awesome, man.

After starting a novel-writing career, I'm finally dipping my toe in the comic-writing pool myself, though I'm going the straight-to-GN route. I figure I'll start a thread when it's further along, but I'm excited to do it. A friend of mine and I are creating this short series of graphic novels and I wrote the first 13 pages of it today and am loving it. I have an artist set up that I really enjoy and need to find a toner and a letterer, but we'll get to that when we're ready. As much as I prefer color comics, we're going the B&W route for pricing reasons.

Anyhow, just thought I'd mention it since you've been there. Wish me luck.

Also, do you have an estimated time-frame for when you're hoping to release a tpb?

Best of luck, JH! It's definitely challenging getting a comic made, but also highly rewarding. I can't wait to see what you put together!

Also, I imagine it'll be 2014 before it's all collected in graphic novel format.

Remember, folks, The Standard #4 is available for pre-order in Previews NOW! Get in touch with your local comic shop retailer this coming week if you'd like them to stock it. Order code: AUG131152!

Major props on you book! Really refreshing to see someone actually committing to it and self publishing. Usually people who want to write or draw just go on and on about how they've got an epic idea for a 38 volume series spanning the history of civilization...and then they never even finish page one. lol.

Seriously, well done.

Thanks Vid! It's definitely a big step to go from planning or aspiring to do something to actually doing it. But it's one of these things where you're not going to get the chance to make a comic unless you go out there and make a comic. And yeah, there's been ups and downs, but I've learned so much over the process of doing it.
