I'm very happy with the cut, and the studio was very generous in terms of letting me finish the movie as I wanted, but I do think we will have a slightly more violent version... let's say an unrated, a bloodier version. There's about ten or 12 minutes of scenes that I'd love people to see, that we'll produce some kind of longer version of the movie at some point on Blu-ray or whatever. There's another great scene with Hiro Sanada and a much more elaborate battle with ninjas from the third act that is a pretty huge battle sequence that you'll see.

I was already happy with what I've heard/seen regarding the film's violence (hell, even just the trailers and featurettes are bloodier than Origins), but this is really cool news. Making it ten or so minutes longer is great too-- much better than having the exact same film just with more blood.

In one of the clips on the HBO First Look, it appeared that Wolverine [BLACKOUT]stabs a guy in the face - at least that's it looked, he had the guy pinned to the ground, and there was really only one place for the claws to go when they came down,[/BLACKOUT] so he's definitely not screwing around in this one.

I might have to get an edit done for TLS that fixes some continuity errors and uses some deleted footage. There's a few things I think can improve the film, and it might be worth doing if the future films are great and reference it heavily.

That clip was great. Better than most of the trailers. Shared it on FB.

Yes, I had the same kind of idea years ago, I pitched it here on the boards but nobody was really into it. Id like to do a recut, with most of the deleted and alternate scenes put in (extended phoenix destruction, Wolverine being pessimistic about iceman and the kids coming with them, More fighting etc)

Im not sure if we could accomplish this in blu ray format or what. I couldn't find anyone interested in editing it with me lol. Im not very good on the technical side of things because i don't have the equipment!

Jackman said that he wanted to make an R-rated Wolverine movie, but didn't think that the studio would go for it (business-wise). Getting an unrated cut on home release might be a compromise.

Thats awesome news indeed, just hope now the film is good enough to make me want it on release as it stands.

But a directors cut of this would be outstanding.

If you want us to see it, then why the hell aren't they in the movie? 10-12 mins isn't a little bit of film. So I don't get to see the real finished article in theaters? This kind of stuff is ridiculous.

It's not hard to understand why they wouldn't release an R-rated Wolverine movie in theaters. Getting an Unrated Blu-ray edition is the absolute best possible scenario. The movie is damn violent enough as is for the masses.

He would make the film first and then get told after what the rating is, then it would get edited to match what the "suits" wanted.

He probably knew this in advance so carried on and made the film he wanted too to try and keep everyone happy.

You're assuming his intention was to film scenes that would automatically be cut. Do you not know how the editing and rating processes work?

Don't be daft. Ratings are decided afterwards by independent censors, not during production, although studios know roughly what is acceptable.

But Mangold obviously is aware that people want an uber-violent Wolverine, so he must have gone beyond the rating in certain scenes then held them back.

An R-rated Wolverine will never be released in cinemas, because kids like Wolverine too. And probably because it would lead to lower box office because you are excluding family audiences.

I know exactly how it works. And everyone knows what will get through and what won't. It is not nearly as arbitrary as many like to act like it is. The "We sent it through twice and got different ratings" is a rarity. Especially if we are talking about that much film.
