Horror The Strangers

Well she did get brutally stabbed, she probably dies. :) They leave because they finished their business, did you expect them to stick around for tea? :D

Naomi Watts? ANd youre saying it was way more disturbing than this? Damn i should check it out then.

Though I have to warn you it's pretty...quirky and divisive. 50% of people hate it and 50% of people love it, it's kind of bizarre and original.

But yeah, Naomi Watts was awesome, same with Michael Pitt. The original was great and so was the (unnecessary shot-for-shot remake by the exact same director of the original foreign film, can people not read subtitles) remake. I was only reminded of it by Strangers because it has the same "strangers break into an innocent family's house randomly" motif, though after that it veers far differently.

It's most fun seeing in a movie theater like I did with the remake, gaging the audience's gasps and seeing how many walk out in confusion and annoyance. :D

No, just looking at the qoutes from the US thing. It looks like they break the fourth wall and that's something that can only be done in certain movies. Horrors and thrillers are not one of those movies.

They said the movie made no sense really it was just the two people breaking in and doing stuff to the couple.

Which is why you know nothing about the film. Not a good idea to prejudge. It's not your typical horror and thriller and not for your typical audience, it works unbelievably well in this film because of that. It isn't hammed in by your rules for cinema and genres.

It made sense to me. Like I said, not for your typical Strangers audience. Some will get it and some are just better off watching simpler faire.

Well, aren't we just a little bit of thinking we are better than everyone else just because we like some rare little indie film? :o

Word of advice, you aren't and you never will be. :o

lol, way to take sudden offense and put words in my mouth because you've lost the argument. :whatever: Just because you seem to have an inferiority complex doesn't mean you have to make me a superior god or something. It's neither rare nor little nor indie. You're making presumptive absolute cinema judgments on a film you know nothing about at all and using hackneyed laws for "horrors and thrillers" despite the fact that Funny Games fits nowhere in the typical horror or thriller.
I can't help sounding arrogant when one talks about something they know nothing about.

Word of advice, stop jumping to strawmen when you can no longer make real posts, and stick to what you know.

Oh, sweetie. Me and inferiority complex never ever go in the same sentence. :o

The point is you're all spewing strawmen and absolute laws (NEVER WORKS FOR HORRORS AND THRILLERS) about a very bizarre film that you know nothing about and haven't seen. It's not your typical film, that's all. Stop taking such offense and saying I'm trying to be "superior", it makes you come off as insecure.

Well, you know theres always those type of people around who think their better then most. It's the hype what do you expect?
"Hype" behind Funny Games? >.>

Yeah. That film and this film don't even look like they belong in the same genre. That looks more like a black comedy than a horror thriller. It still looks like a fairly generic black comedy though. :o

And it's not. Once again, when you talk about a film and director you know nothing about, you look like an ass.
It's as simple as that. *shrug* It's not a fairly generic black comedy, and it's not a typical horror and thriller.

What more can I say? I'm not trying to be pretentious or superior, I've simply seen the movie and know what it's actually about and what it is. So that's why I'm talking about it. >.>

i know it looks like they make jokes and then tortue the people through out the movie.

that music in the trailer made it seem like it didn't fit in there and was out of place.

It's the music for a Clockwork Orange trailer, intentionally, it fit in and was so in place for the film that people criticized it as being too copycat, at least the trailer I mean. But no, it's not really what I'd call a black comedy.

Why did they do the trailer like that? If they made it more of a scary themed i probably would of liked to check it out.

Edit: Nevermind.

You can base opinions of a movie off a trailer. That's what trailers to movies are for, to give you a judge of what you most likely will think of the movie. There are cases where I've seen trailers that I hated and liked the movie itself and vice versa.

So don't go saying I'm judging my opinion off nothing, because I've seen a trailer which is a summary of what a movie will be like for the most part.

Because ComixGirl doesn't know a black comedy/satire when she sees one. :o
Yes, you know the genre of movie you haven't seen over someone who has, uh, actually seen the movie and is familiar with Haneke. :woot:

This isn't Transformers, who cares about the trailer, only like two people saw it anyway. The point is, you can make judgements based on the trailer, but if you make absolute rule assumptions you sound like an ass, especially to someone who has actually seen the film.

It's not a black comedy/satire, and it's not a typical horror or thriller. I'm not debating things here, that's just what the movie is. *shrug* If the trailer showed you something else, it's ultimately irrelevant.

Well I would atleast like to know what happened to her character. I mean after being brutally stabbed, she just lives? No explaination?
