Horror The Strangers

You can base opinions of a movie off a trailer. That's what trailers to movies are for, to give you a judge of what you most likely will think of the movie. There are cases where I've seen trailers that I hated and liked the movie itself and vice versa.

So don't go saying I'm judging my opinion off nothing, because I've seen a trailer which is a summary of what a movie will be like for the most part.
To be fair here, a lot of trailers are misleading. Whether it's intentional or not is the question, but it happens.

I've seen the original, and yeah the trailer isn't really anything like the movie.

Well I would atleast like to know what happened to her character. I mean after being brutally stabbed, she just lives? No explaination?
Didn't the beginning say something about a couple dying or something? I thought it implied everyone dies.

In the case of Funny Games I'd say it's intentionally misleading to trick morons. :D

And it's not. Once again, when you talk about a film and director you know nothing about, you look like an ass.
It's as simple as that. *shrug* It's not a fairly generic black comedy, and it's not a typical horror and thriller.

What more can I say? I'm not trying to be pretentious or superior, I've simply seen the movie and know what it's actually about and what it is. So that's why I'm talking about it. >.>

Then start another thread and talk about it in there. You can't honestly look at what you said and not tell me that you aren't coming off as pretentious. When you say things like this:

Well, it's not for your typical film audience. :whatever: I'm sure it's "lame".

And this:

Which is why you know nothing about the film. Not a good idea to prejudge. It's not your typical horror and thriller and not for your typical audience, it works unbelievably well in this film because of that. It isn't hammed in by your rules for cinema and genres.

It made sense to me. Like I said, not for your typical Strangers audience. Some will get it and some are just better off watching simpler faire.

You come off sounding like you're some kind of special elitist and everyone else who doesn't watch it are social ******s who should just watch slop. The only person coming off looking like an ass in this situation is yourself who came in with posts that pretty much boil down to "my movie is better than yours", even if you didn't mean it that way, with how you worded them, that's how they come off.

Star Wars prequels are a fine example of that. Awesome ****ing trailer...not so great films.

Yes, you know the genre of movie you haven't seen over someone who has, uh, actually seen the movie and is familiar with Haneke. :woot:

This isn't Transformers, who cares about the trailer, only like two people saw it anyway. The point is, you can make judgements based on the trailer, but if you make absolute rule assumptions you sound like an ass, especially to someone who has actually seen the film.

It's not a black comedy/satire, and it's not a typical horror or thriller. I'm not debating things here, that's just what the movie is. *shrug* If the trailer showed you something else, it's ultimately irrelevant.
Then what the **** is the movie, because it's either one of two things...a horror/thriller (which judging from that trailer it ain't because it definitely doesn't make me scared), or a black comedy (which it more than likely is because it looks funny as hell and not disturbing in the least.) :o

That sucks, they should of atleast made an alternate trailer.

I'm well aware of trailers being misleading. Hellloooo X-Men: The Last Stand. :o

Everything is black and white? All films must be categorized in absolute genres with defined borders? DIS IS AN ACTION FILM. DIS IS A COMEDY.
Funny Games is the wrong movie to attempt to classify, it's just too bizarre and unique. It's almost more of an attack and artistic statement than a film.

It's intentionally misleading for morons like Bill, it's the type of movie that screws with you. I rather think Haneke did it all on purpose, I loved the face of the people in the audience as they discovered what the film truly IS. Wholly intentional, I think.

Jeez, did you help produce the movie or something? You have a huge personal thing against anyone who says something negative about it.

Yes, I'm a moron for not seeing your little movie. Yes, I'm a moron cause I state my opinion.

Word of advice sister, grow up, leave this site, then come back when you are mature and don't sprout names at people who've never once called you one.

Calling people names is not helping your case any either.

No, I'm not, I just have to laugh when people pull things out of their ass.
It's not that they're saying "negative" things, it's that they haven't seen the sky and they're saying it's neon-green when I have seen the sky and know it's blue. Simple as that. It's not even in my top 100 films. I never even said it was an unbelievable film, it's just morons making absolute generalizations and assumptions about a film they've never seen.

If someone who hadn't seen X3 called it a horrible documentary, I'd call them a moron and gawk at them.

Aww yes a noob trying to prove point is always something funny when you don't seem to agree with them.

You know alot can't deal with others having a opinion different then yours.

A NOOB OMG. DA INTERNETZ.

It's not a matter of differing opinions, he's stating something the movie ISN'T. I'm not even debating the quality of the film. It's like saying up is down or that Schindler's List is a slapstick comedy. XD

OHMIGOSH, IT'S MY OPINION, RESPECT IT. :( It's my opinion that the sky is made out of pineapples. >:O

Yeah. Whatever. You clearly just have a girl ***** for this film. From the trailer and many reviews...it's called a black comedy/satire. Hell, I even found a qoute from Scott Speedman (who in case you didn't know since Funny Games seems to be the only movie you want to talk about, starred in The Strangers) calling it a satire.

It's a black comedy/satire, deal with it. :o

Thats funny when you don't even respect anyone elses who says a bad thing about it.

Ain't it funny.

You're making absolute assumptions about a film you haven't seen. That is moronic. Deal with it.
You keep yapping and speaking idiocy "U HAVE A GIRL ***** UR A PR PERSON". I'm not even debating the quality of the movie. If you'd seen it and said it was a horrible movie, that would be totally cool. I even said 50% of people found it confusing and bad.
The point is, you're making absolute statements about something you don't know a thing about, and then when I point out the fact you're wrong you lash out with strawmen and ******ation.

Thats funny when you don't even respect anyone elses who says a bad thing about it.

What's funny is how stupid you seem to be. We're not debating the quality of the film. This discussion isn't even about it being "bad" or "bad things". How would the genre of the film be a bad or good thing about it? I'm pointing out the genre of the film since I've actually seen it.

Try reading before posting. I guess I'M the noob. :D

I'm done talking with you. Come back to me when you've grown up young one, because obviously you have alot of maturing to do. :o

so uh yeah, i read they would bring back liv tyler for the sequel.

Christ, more strawmen and weird ******ation. It seems you've conceded. Thank god. You were basically just spamming for most of the thread.

Bill: This movie I haven't seen is ____
Me: Uh, no, it's actually not.
Bill: IMMATURE NOOB.

so uh yeah, i read they would bring back liv tyler for the sequel.
Really, where is this?

That you said respect my opinion yet you weren't when people said something bad about it.

Thats what i mean.
