The Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow News and Discussion Thread

I’m casting-starved. I need this, Lanterns and The Batman Part II to stop playing in my face like this.

Lanterns casting yesterday, Supergirl casting today. Dare I hope for Batman Part II by the end of the week? [/delusional thinking]

Great casting, can we replace the director with someone who didn't direct Cruella next so the movie will be worthy of its cast?

I think the only thing I've seen this guy in are Far From the Madding Crowd and Amsterdam. Was great in the former, don't remember him in the latter, but good actor either way.

I haven’t seen Cruella so I can’t speak on it, it didn’t look good though. But it’s also a big dumb 4Q live action Disney movie in the 21st century. They all look bad. Miufasa is being made by one of our greatest directors rn and it looks bad too. I’m not gonna hold him over the fire for that.

Lars and the Real Girl and I, Tonya are both good and deal with drastic relationships. They aren’t $200M films, but they show that he can direct actors very, very well and this story is very character driven. Gonna need a trailer before I deem him unsuitable.

For sure, but while I don't hate all of Gillespie's movies the issue is that his blockbuster movies are extraordinarily bad and on top of that his good movies make him feel like a bad fit for this. He has a very particular style and it could not be further from what I'd want out of this source material on top of the fact its being directed by a man in the first place feeling pretty lame - particularly in a broader context where one suspects there's a "welp guess women can't direct CBMs" narrative in the industry.

A Gillespie movie that feels like a Gillespie movie would be pretty terrible for this and a Gillespie movie that feels like his big studio work would be even worse. My hope is that the script is strong and he's basically a pure hired gun.

The Deadline article is carefully written so it doesn’t actually confirm he’s Krem— only that he’ll be the movie’s villain, and the script itself is based on a comic in which Krem is the villain.

Maybe overthinking it, but it could be that they’re swapping out Krem for a more “marquee” character.

The thing about that is none of the Superman/girl villains except Lex and maybe Brainiac are any more "Marquee" villains than Krem is. There aren't really any that are going to make the GA go OH MY GOD ITS SO AND SO.

House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock won the role of Supergirl after an extensive search. She’s also appearing in another DC project before making her big-screen debut as the Angel of the Sky.
I suppose this all but confirms that Alcock's first appearance as Supergirl will be in Gunn's Superman film. Then again, BK's phrasing here seems to suggest that she won't be debuting on the big screen. I don't know. Maybe he just misspoke.

You’re not wrong; back when the Momoa / Lobo rumors were in full swing, I thought that may be the direction. But Matt Schoenaerts doesn’t scream Lobo to me.

Maybe Zor-El? But the whole Cyborg Superman thing gets a bit wonky.

Matthias is such an inspired choice. A terrific actor. But I was so disappointed to see the director attached. Is Gillespie confirmed? Imagine it being as bland visually as some of his movies.

The movie could be one of best looking comic book movies ever, if done right. Those panels and the artwork. And it's such a wonderful story too. So much potential with the right director.

How old is the Ruythe character supposed to be and is there any rumors on who they are looking for to play her?
