The Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 60

Really don’t understand what’s so difficult about writing a story where Blade and his newfound daughter band together and fight Dracula.

Throw in a giant CGI bat for size too (it’s a Marvel movie after all).
I would have pitched Blade and his daughter fight Lilith, the Midnight Suns are teased and they fight Dracula. I also don't see why that's hard

Not hard, and hype for most fans. WTF have they been doing all this time? I feel sorry for Ali, was happy he was willing to do another Marvel role, and this time an iconic one.

I saw D&W today with my sis and bro-in-law who both enjoyed it a lot and got a fair few references despite also missing a lot. I already thought I understood well why this film was exploding and also why it annoyed the heck out of some fans - and seeing it totally confirmed everything I thought. Also as expected, I had a total blast with it. :D

Looking back, my irritation with Deadpool in 2 might have been more related to that annoying kid, still only seen that film the one time while I’ve seen the first 50 or so times. I found Deadpool strangely quite fresh again and a unique vehicle to do this stuff with CBMs in general. The jokes are definitely about quantity rather than quality but enough of them land to make up for the large number that don’t. The cameos were very fun and I’m glad for many of the actors getting another chance, some nice nostalgia at the end too.

This was a great team up but it made made me realise that Deadpool himself has awesome action choreography compared to many other superheroes. I’d had enough of him after 2 but now I’m up for more after this one.

Oh and I’d seen a lot of praise for Emma Corrin here. Yes, she was an absolute delight every second she was on screen. I’ll have to check out more films that she’s in.

Wow, Warner Bros reported a quarter loss of 10 BILLION after writing down some assets and the stock was under $7 in after hours trading. I wouldn't get too attached to anything DC related, this can't continue for long.

Well that escalated quickly

This is a bit of a tricky thing. They took a markdown on goodwill. No actual money was lost. Goodwill is essentially how much a brand name is worth. How people feel about said brand put to a monetary value. The key to remember with accounting, it boils down to a simple X + Y = Z formula. Change one of those variables, another change has to be made to balance out the equation. And you have to keep your goodwill fairly accurate, which WBD is doing with the general loss of advertising on cable and the big loss of the NBA. Its kind of what they did to Rocksteady. After SS failed, they knocked off a good chunk of Rocksteady's goodwill, granted, that may have been inflated due to expectations of SS. Overall, though, their cash flow is actually better than Q2 last year.

I was offered the night at the movies, so it was between Trap or Twisters. Due to reviews and cause it's not as new, opted for Twisters. I stand by everything I said about the first one being garbage and a painful movie to sit through. But also that said, this movie was actually pretty good. I did start to roll my eyes at the sheer quantity of tornadoes they're just.....there for. Like anytime a light breeze happens, BAM! Tornado! It became a bit much for my verisimilitude, but the movie itself is entertaining despite that

Warner bros discovery has been a mess for yes. All those corporate mergers and acquisitions often lead to them just shuffling debt around.

Again, this is one of those weird accounting situations where no money was actually lost. This isn't a product that failed to produce a profit. Look, I get Zaslav deserves a lot of flack. But, I'm not entirely sure that he deserves the blame here. Something clearly was going on to have the NBA back out of their relationship with WBD. And marking down the devaluation of TNT is only responsible accounting.

He's an easy target and deserves every bit of filth thrown his way so more power to the Zaslav hate train regardless.

Kind of. It's true it's not an immediate money loss, but it's also a signal that they have assets that are not as valuable as they were before which impacts future earnings. NBA was a huge cash cow for them and it's gone now which will have significant future earnings impact. And then you just add the huge debt load they have and it's tough to see things improving.

Well the movie did state in the beginning that there was an unusual tornado outbreak and as someone who lives in tornado alley that's how tornados usually happen... out of nowhere.

Those characters in the movie should be lucky they didn't get 81 tornados in the span of 3 days. :o
