The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: Quoth the Kraven, "Nevermore." - Part 61

Same here. Lets let the character rest for a while and build up a hunger for his cinematic return in like a decade or so.

And maybe i’m alone in this but i REALLY dont wanna see Barry Keoghan’s Joker come to fruition. Lawd that looked dreadful to me.
I'd also be happy for a 10 year break from Joker on film, the hype would be huge once he finally returns. But at the same time if Reeves wants to do Joker I say let him do it. As for Keoghan I won't judge on what little we've seen. I think he can be a good Joker when given the opportunity to take on the role properly and directed by Reeves.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011)

First time seeing this - what the hell did I just watch??

This film has more crazy charm and inventiveness than just about anything else I've seen in years! What I wouldn't give to see studios start making CBMs as gonzo and alive as this one again...

This is the most bat**** crazy thing I've seen in ages. And you know what?

I think Keoghan could do a bang up job with the role
but that make-up was not it... I'd struggle to watch a whole movie with Joker looking like that

So...last night I was having a rough day with the kiddos before the wife came home. So she sent me to the movies. So, I watched this Joker Floppy a Deuce. With all of 5 people, including myself, in the auditorium for the screening.

I am judging this movie as a movie. Not how well it does or doesn't represent the DC character the Joker. As a movie, and a musical in particular....a good musical transitions between standard dialogue and the singing and bombastic sequences seamlessly. One example I will give is Hugh Jackman and Zac Effron go drinking discussing their lives and working together. Then in the middle of that conversation, Hugh gives his pitch to working for him and the song begins. Seamlessly. You're already invested in the scene and you don't even register the shift. Now....what if I told you instead of that, all the musical sequence would just stop the movie dead on its tracks and instead of singing like they're pros and doing good music, the actors have to sing like drunk people doing karaoke at a bar. Does that sound appealing? It's not. This was an abysmal disaster. Megalopolis levels of bad. Probably worse. If not for Borderlands, this would be the worst thing I saw all year.

1/5

Fans of Joker will hate it. Some fans may offer excuses like it's a masterpiece of trolling in the vein of Freddy Got Fingered or something. But for me, this is just bad cinema

Looks like Venom is going to absolutely smash Joker (along with getting 19 Oscars and a 128% RT rating).

That was not Cassandra Cain in BoP. No one can convince me that she was.

Was she comic accurate? Hell no, but I liked her rapport with Harley.

And BoP is still the best thing the DCEU ever did.

Would you think less of me if I told you Freddy Got Fingered was one of my favorite movies to watch on cable as a kid?

In 6th Grade we would be like "Daddy would you like some sausage?!" LOL.

I am going to be honest, I do think Freddy Got Fingered sort of works. The parody I do think comes across, so for me it sort of does work as a troll movie. This doesn't. This movie wants to be a deconstruction of Joker and the fans of the movie, but it falls flat for me when you do it on a 200 mil budget when the studio paid you like what....20 million to do it. Plus, you knew what you were making the first time Todd. At least Tom Green achieved what he wanted to. Cause he made that movie not to make money, but so he could see the look on the Producer's faces when he screened it for them and they realized they had to promote this and put it in theaters

I hate BoP with a passion. Every character in that film is just wretched.

And Cassandra Cain is an amazing character in the comics. If you called the girl in BoP anything other than Cassandra Cain, maybe she would be ok. But they made her Cassandra so that was wretched as well. And don’t get me started on a Black Canary who patiently waits outside and doesn’t intervene while Black Mask and Zasz cut a teenage girl’s face off. But that’s ok because they made a booger joke at first. Again. Wretched.

My dislike of that film is probably irrational.

That said, outside of Wonder Woman and maybe Aquaman, the title of best thing to come out of DCEU is a very low bar.

You know for a fella who openly admits to liking pineapple pizza, you are SO judgmental when it comes to your DC characters.

Nah but for real, I understand where you’re coming from. With Cassandra, I like to think if we had a sequel, we would’ve gotten Lady Shiva and fleshed out her whole backstory some more to make her more accurate.

And with Dinah, I mean look. She’s a young woman who watched her mother sacrifice herself to save Gotham, so granted she’s a little jaded. I personally liked her portrayal, but I get where you’re coming from.

Birds of Prey sits high on my favourite CBMs, personally. Some of the character deviations are... A Choice. Cass in particular. A choice I don't think works as an adaptation of that character, but does work for the movie. Should have just gone with a different character name, but I'll go with it. It's a delightful time start to finish in my book, gorgeous to look at, with Robbie's best turn as Harley and one of the best villains the genre has to offer.

I know, right? I don’t like a Batman who brands people, a Superman who is depressed and snaps necks, a Dinah who doesn’t intervene while a teenage girl gets her face flayed off, or a Cassandra Cain who doesn’t know how to fight. I’m such a whiner!

Actually, I could’ve probably been ok with BoP, but that scene with the face peeling really didn’t sit well with me at all. It was vicious and to me made Dinah unredeemable.

Same. Matt Reeves Batman is still probably my favorite DC adaption ever, but nothing about that worked for me. Hope I'm wrong and they either make things click or just drop it all together.

Perfect description since Logan is moving here like you're swapping through his costumes in a video game selection screen.

Been a long, long time since I saw this but remember enjoying it. Need to revisit that soon for sure.
