The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: Quoth the Kraven, "Nevermore." - Part 61

I miss sets, decent lighting and color grading on the norm. Was watching Casper the other day and all I could think about is how much better it looked then 90% of stuff I see today. It reminded me of watching Arsenic and Old Lace. It felt real, even with all the early CGI.

Another masterpiece that I have watched an unhealthy amount of times. Sherri Stoner’s writing and these two make the damn movie:

Cathy Moriarty was funny as hell.

Even the bad, lower budgeted films of the 90s just had a VIBE to them that felt cozy. Like, the other day i watched Timecop and Death Warrant and I...actually, let me just stop there. :funny:
I do love 90s films.

But 80s bad films are the greatest of all time. Actually, “bad” 80s films don’t exist.

My favorite 80s movie franchise:

Steve James is the greatest action star of the 80s.

There. I said it.

I'll say this.... this scene? not in the movie! Even though it's the poster of both of them dancing on the steps.

So the big callback to the famous scene isn't in the flick? Jesus. :funny:

Wow, I don’t remember seeing a D before for any film (not just CBMs). Even a C feels very rare. Although maybe I‘m less likely to be following the films that are that badly received. Anyway, looking like a disaster at this point and likely to see a huge drop off with the very low hype (even on a superhero board) and now a crazily poor reception.

I bet it's because the average joe wasn't expecting it to be a musical

Movies with deceptive marketing tend to score terribly on CS

I appreciated sets that actually look like sets. There is a charm to those kinds of sets that I love. It didn't bother me in Cowboy Bebop, and I absolutely love the sets on One Piece. A lot of times, I feel in scifi/fantasy, let the set remain a set, don't kill yourself for "reality". And dear god, did we hit the limits of the Volume quick.

Nothing compared to the 90's ninja movies.

(just try to ingore the trumpist idiot in the movie)

I miss how movies LOOKED and FELT in the 90s. The way they were shot, compositioned and scored. TMNT 1990 for example, man what a beautifully moody looking film. You could practically feel the water drops from the pipes in the sewers and taste the pizza when the Turtles ate them. Or a movie like Basic Instinct, the way every shot looked warm and sensual, and you could feel sweat drops and cigarette smoke from all the men during that Sharon Stone interrogation scene.

Movies in the 90s just felt moodier and had more atmosphere than modern films IMO.

I couldn't agree more with this. I like plenty of modern movies, but they just don't FEEL the same.

I watched the original The Crow movie the other night and modern movies can't touch its atmosphere or mood. Minimal CGI also helped.

80's and 90's movies were just different.

Ok. I loved Surf Ninjas. But unfortunately Rob Schneider was never funny and now he’s a nutcase.

The second they announced this was going to be a musical (or moreso started denying that it was a musical), I figured there would be some issues ahead with the core fanbase, but this and everything else going on is a rejection at a whole new level. There's a lot in the film that's antagonizing those superfans, and that might be an interesting approach... if this thing didn't cost $200 million. Everyone's lost the plot, this kind of spending is just as nonsensical as Disney burning $670k per minute for The Acolyte or reshooting Captain America 4 so extensively that the budget is now north of $350 million.
