The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: Quoth the Kraven, "Nevermore." - Part 61

If they plan on bringing back the FoX-Men for the 2 upcoming Avenger movies, I’m more than happy to see Tatum’s Gambit return. And given the mid credit scene in the Marvels, I think that’s where things may be headed.

He probably shouldn’t be MCU Gambit when they hit the big reset button on everything, but I’m actually in favor of his return in some capacity

Deborah is such a delight. I’m so glad she’s coming back as Karen.

Wow, 7,000 extra cool points to Woll and 400 to Bernthal for being interested or at least playing along. D&D Dungeon Master!! I wanna play :waa:She makes a living from it? I would definitely pay for her to run the games. :funny: Feige are you seeing this, someone needs a promotion!

“Much further” hmmm. When we first heard Disney would get Daredevil the assumption was that things would be muted/Disneyfied. D&W shows that that’s not necessarily going to be the case, and I expected them to go safer on the big screen than on a show with a pre-existing tone. I don’t need further in that direction than Netflix Daredevil (like Punisher), but it’s at least a sign that the show isn’t going to have to pull punches to be kid-friendly.
Kids generally don't seem to be all that interested in Daredevil either, certainly when compared to Deadpool, and since they didn't tone down the violence in D&W I don't think we have to worry about it with Born Again since that'll be more aimed at adults anyway.

I don’t mind however many Fox characters they want to dump into the end of the multiverse story. This is the time where it’s ok to get dumb and throw everything in - after Secret Wars when the dust settles, no more of this **** lol.

I don’t really want anyone to survive the cull for the future post SW-MCU but Deadpool while audiences still dig it I guess would continue and can take the piss out of the evolving MCU separately. Jackman I don’t mind being stranded like Spock Prime and popping up here and there as Old Man Logan, but the MCU needs characters
/actors including a younger Wolverine for the longer term future (3 phases) after SW. Look for the best young actors who haven’t quite made it yet who would still be affordable.

I’m interested to see how they handle the characters from the more adult side of the MCU in crossovers. There was a time I was sure Deadpool 3 and DD Born Again would be pg-13 because they would have those characters also appear in the kid friendly movies, but that doesn’t seem to be a concern for Marvel. Jackman’s Wolverine is most assuredly coming back for Secret Wars, and they’re even having Cox voice Daredevil in the Spider-Man cartoon.

Deadpool is the one that I’m not sure about as you lose 70% of his personality by PGing him, although his action choreography is really good and could add something even with the jokes/gore turned down and 4th wall turned off. Otherwise I expected Marvel to adapt characters when they were in team event films to fit the tone of the films they’re in.

I can see it working fine with She-Hulk being a bit more serious (except to teammates). Daredevil/Matt has already adapted well when appearing in the She-Hulk show and those 2 shows couldn’t be much more different to each other. So far with integrating Matt in Spidey and She-Hulk and Deadpool/Wolverine into Marvel, things have been handled with common sense and some skill so it leaves me much more confident than I was that they can handle other examples in a way that works.

10-15 years ago they probably would have been PG-13 but Deadpool, IT and Joker all being huge successes really made studios warm up to the R rating, and honestly we're the better for it.

Yeah she's pretty into it. She's collaborated with Wizards of the Coast on DnD stuff in the past. And she played a guest character on Critical Role as well.

I dont care if Superman or FF do better. I am a fan of both properties and want both movies to be good and do well enough to warrant sequels. This ain't a game where score keeping matters or you win something for being on the "winning" team.
Quite curious Spider-Fan, are you more hyped for Superman or Fantastic Four coming out next year?

I am more excited for a good FF film than a Superman one cause I at least have Superman: The Movie that I enjoy. The FF haven't gotten even a good movie at this point. But FF worries me with some of its creative choices and the whole RDJ thing (I am assuming he makes a post credit appearance and I still hate this). But I am at least encouraged by what I have seen of FF thus far

Thanks for these, she’s bloody awesome! So glad I found out about this. I’ll be watching more of her stuff.

Are we sure about that?

I don't know about "we", especially since I never claimed to speak for "we". There's a reason why that post starts with "In My opinion".

what about the X-men was assured to be a Spider-man level hit?

I just hate the use of box office as a dick measuring contest.

Oh, what I like isn't as popular as something else, who gives a ****. As long as you liked it, shouldn't that all that matter. Generally, I only care about the box office being promising enough for a sequel.

You don't like BO measuring contests, I don't like people strawmanning my posts, which you've done here.

I didn't make a comparison to other franchises. Neither did the post I responded to.

Why you used my post as a vehicle to get on your soapbox, I really don't know.

Why compete with that and Superman when you can pick a less crowded month? That's one thing that has worked in Deadpool's favor. Nothing major came out after for weeks!

It took the studios decades to figure that out when WB, Universal and Disney started experimenting with major March/April releases. If you have a good movie (or a highly anticipated sequel), you don’t have to fight for a prime summer or holiday weekend.

Disney could theoretically release F4: First Steps in mid-September 2025 or first week in October and nab a $100-150M opening. Then they can sit back and have a nice Shang-Chi sized multiple. Then time the DVD/Blu release a week before Christmas. Cha ching.

I miss boxofficemojo, you really could dig into box office information. Since it was taken over for IMDB it doesn't have a lot of the information it had before.I'm sure there's still a month or 2 that hasn't produced a $1B movie, but it was customary that May-July & December were usually the standouts. Not so much anymore.
