The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: Quoth the Kraven, "Nevermore." - Part 61

FWIW I enjoyed my time with Agatha more than The Penguin
But I'm not crazy about Mafia dramas to begin with, so its not too surprising

Its undoubtedly a well-crafted show, but more and more, I find the movies and tv I find "enjoyable" diverging from the things are more "award-worthy cinema"
Its the Logan versus Deadpool & Wolverine thing. Logan was hands down the better film, but I'll be watching D&W a hell of a lot more often.

Most times I don't need steak au poivre, I want a happy meal

Yeah, I'm basically all maffia'd and hitman'd and revenge hero'd out by Hollywood at this point. I have zero interest left in stories about regular people mentally and physically trashing each other for money, fun or just because they can.

I didn't even know the Penguin was coming out this week, which is how uninterested I am in it. Doesn't make it bad - and it's probably partly because it was never my favorite genre in the first place - but it is what it is.

I mean....I can eat steak every night for dinner lol!!! So much tastier than a happy meal!

A happy meal actually is kind of poor quality for what it's trying to be, imo, so I wouldn't pick that. But I would pick a good or even half-decent hamburger over any sort of steak* 24/7/365. Steak is boring.

(*I would try Wagyu once if it weren't insanely expensive.)

Steak ain't boring if you make it like I do. Gotta season it just right, make a onion, mushroom, and peppers stir fry and lay them on top of the steak. Then enjoy :o

Daredevil more directly engages with the superhero genre conventions. I.e., costumed/superpowered protagonist. Whereas, The Penguin — per se — is genre adjacent.

Yes I know one show is about a good guy vs a show about a bad guy. However, the subject matter, the style, the substance, the overall grit and grimness of showing a street-level comic book story is the more accurate comp to make than a show that does not deal with comic books or comic book storytelling.

Managed to convince my roommate/friend to watch The Batman before watching The Penguin, as she likes Farrell but didn’t watch the film as she saw Pattinson as Edward Cullen.

Hope she is surprised by how good the film is. Otherwise, I have to find a new roommate! :o

Haven't watched The Penguin yet but excited to dig into it based on what you all are saying.

Why, though, does it feel like WBD isn't giving it enough promotion/marketing?
They are broke.

Haven't swung by for a while (had my first kid, getting a new job, etc) but wanted to pop in to reiterate how good the Penguin is. I was already excited for The Batman II but this took that to another level.
Congrats on both of those big life events, Flint! Stay winning! :wowe:

Penguin is straight fire so far. Best live-action superhero show since Watchmen imo.

I wish more superhero shows were like this and not so campy.

Congrats amigo! Enjoy the adventure that is fatherhood!
