The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: The SUMC Was In The Amazon With My Mom Studying Spiders Right Before It Died - Part 61

I just remembered something, Liv Tyler is in Brave New World isn't she?
I know she filmed stuff for the movie, but who knows how large her role is

Happy to say that unsurprisingly, The Penguin finale stuck the landing. I might actually put it over Shogun as the best show of 2024. I'm predicting a lot of Emmy attention for it.
I think the popularity and success of this show is really going to do wonders for the buildup and hype of Part II

Sort of like how The Dark Knight took that next step in popularity after Batman Begins. If anything, the show was more popular than the movie it was spun off from, at least in my circle of friends.

No one remembers the Halloween movie that was released on March. :o

Yeah, I have no complaints about The Penguin finale. I really loved the show overall and while it wasn't completely perfect, I still found it to be one of the most satisfying shows of the year.

I'm really looking forward to Peacemaker Season 2 and Daredevil: Born Again but I doubt either of those shows will be anywhere close to this level of quality which isn't a bad thing IMO, but I do wish we got more top-quality superhero/comic-book shows like this within the genre.

X-Men 97 is still at the top for me, but I could easily see myself putting this over Shogun at some point as my second favorite show of the year depending on the rewatchability factor.

Either way I'm more than satisfied with what we got here.

Absolutely to all of the above.

X-Men 97 was the best animated superhero/comic-book show of the year and The Penguin was the best live action superhero/comic-book show of the year, in my book.

Both delivered in satisfying ways.

The back end half of the show has its issues, but the character work for Penguin was sublime top to bottom. I absolutely love what they did with Oz's character. The final 15 minutes of the show are so wonderful, and the last shot has me so beyond excited for the future of this world.

Disagree.

Granted, a lot of that has to do with my bias with my love of Maddy and my... experience of X books post E for Extinction.

MAWS is a very fun show and I have to make time to finish the rest of season 2, but I don't know Sith. 97 hit different for me as a black American living in this age.

The themes hit even harder after the BS that transpired last week, but that's just me.

Which is fair. I just know what comes after. And DeMayo was not too subtle about sticking to that. Even with whatever changes they are making to his plan. And its not good.

Yeah, The Penguin was excellent. Is it the best show of the year? Hard to say but it’s definitely in my top 3. If I had to, I would rank them:

1. Fallout
2. The Penguin
3. Shogun

Now, I would say Shogun is probably the BEST of those three shows. But the other two are so damn enjoyable that I would have to put them above it for my own personal preferences. Anyway, if they do a second season, I would welcome it. Or perhaps they’ll do a different spinoff focusing on another character (or characters… and if you’ve seen the final episode, I could definitely see a great show about two particular characters teaming up). Anyway, just a great show all around. Excited to see what’s next in this universe.

For me it's:

1. The Bear
2. The Penguin
3. Fallout
4. Shogun
5. Terminator Zero/X-Men 97/Batman: Caped Crusader

The Boys, Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, and maybe Agatha would probably be after that.

I still need to finish Ripley & Sweetpea and start on English Teacher & Presumed Innocent

Ah yeah I forgot about The Bear. Excellent stuff, but I would still probably put it just below the other three. ROP would round out my top 5. HOTD, The Boys and Agatha would be after that.

It breaks my heart that you guys (except Squeek) and the rest of the world don’t watch Interview With The Vampire.

Criminally underrated show with criminally underrated performances.

I need to get back to it. I watched the first two episodes a while ago and they were indeed great but for some reason I never got back to it. Honestly, I’m just not that into vampires and I kinda already know the basic story so I guess it just wasn’t something that hooked me like these other shows. I think the other problem is that you can only subscribe to so many streaming services. IWTV is on AMC and there isn’t anything else I watch on that so I let the subscription lapse a while back.

Hear me out.

The streets are talking about a Penguin Season 2, but if Matt Reeves told me I could do my own supervillain limited show in his universe, I'd go with this dude:

All I need is Steve Buscemi as Wesker and if I'm lucky, Joe Pesci for Mr. Scarface in a voice over role.

But y'all aint ready for that fire. :o
