The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: The SUMC Was In The Amazon With My Mom Studying Spiders Right Before It Died - Part 61

Did an annual Christmas rewatch of Batman Returns and I love that just two minutes into this family film we see a mom & dad attempt to murder their infant baby by throwing him into a freezing cold river leading into a sewer :tearsofjoy:
It’s more of a horror movie not a kids movie. I love the movie but I understood the uproar at the time about it. :oldrazz:

The Superman & Lois series finale really was fantastic IMO, especially the last 10 minutes. I never got that invested in any of the Arrowverse shows even though I did really enjoy some of them like The Flash, Black Lightning and Stargirl and yet none of them hit me as hard as that S&L finale did.

Just all-around great television IMO even though it did drop a bit in quality for me when Season 2 hit but then it quickly recovered again in Season 3, and I thought Season 4 was great as well.

Kudos to everyone involved in making that show and giving us such an awesome portrayal of Supes despite the budget limitations and working within the confines of the CW network.

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will definitely go down as some of my favorite incarnations of Clark Kent and Lois Lane and now its up to James Gunn to do these characters even more justice on the bigscreen.

Hopefully, he is able to deliver and then some.

And just like that, the best live-action Superman of all-time has left us.

And what a glorious, emotional farewell it was. My Superman fandom was in the darkest place it had ever been in 2016, when Tyler Hoechlin quite literally swooped in with a wink and a smile to save it. And the world at large was enduring the darkest, scariest time I had yet witnessed in my lifetime when this show premiered at the beginning of 2021, giving us the most relatable, hopeful and aspirational Clark & Lois in Tyler and Bitsie there has ever been. I've never been more grateful for these characters and what they represent. I'm so, so grateful to the writers, cast and crew of Superman & Lois for the absolutely beautiful, timeless piece of art they have made that is now a vital piece of Superman's incomparable legacy.

"It went by so fast" indeed. :hrt:

There's a silver lining to this show remaining so criminally undiscovered due to premiering at the tail end of a dying universe on a tiny broadcast netlet. Because I CANNOT WAIT to recommend this show as THE most essential viewing to all the new Superman fans who are about to be made next year. :supes:

Wow its been EIGHT YEARS since Tyler debuted. Seems so much shorter.

Damn, eight years. August 2016, I was out one day and happened across them shooting a fight scene for his debut episode of Supergirl. 17 year old me with my cellphone took some horribly blurry photos but given his run wrapped today:

Wow.

What an incredible finale to an amazing show starring the best Superman and Lois interpretations in live action. This is how you do a series finale. And what an incredibly moving message Superman delivers to us the viewer at the end, something we all would do well to pause and meditate on. Beautifully, said, Superman. Beautifully said.

My hats off to Tyler Hoechlin from coming such a long way from his cameos in Supergirl to growing and maturing into the best modern interpretation of the character. And Tulloch, man, that woman IS Lois Lane personified. I wish wish wish we could see these two continue their adventures on the big screen but alad the onus is on Corenswet and Brosnahan to carry the torch.

I dont love The Other Guys as much, but the intro with Sam Jackson and The Rock jumping off the building is one of the funniest scenes ever. That part was done perfect. I also think Michael Keaton's ongoing TLC gag is also fun
I think that The Other Guys is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. But then again I’ve only seen the Rock and Samuel Jackson intro. I was getting ready in a hotel room on a work trip and it was on in the background. I remember laughing my butt off at that and then having to leave. I figured that the film probably peaked there so I never finished it.

Tyler Hoechlin has had a very interesting career. We forget that he broke onto the scene as a child actor and held his own opposite a cast of Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Daniel Craig, Jude Law, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Stanley Tucci. Do you get a better intro than that? He actually chose to have normal teen and college years as a student athlete before going back to acting. But the dude has chops and he is the best live action Superman and it isn’t even close.

And yes, Bitsie is Lois Lane. Absolute spot on perfection. I’m going to miss this show tremendously, as is my wife, but they gave us a tremendous ending to an amazing run. It’s encouraging to see a crew show such reverence for the characters.

There’s a lot of people over on the Superman boards who are talking about how audiences don’t care about Superman anymore and he isn’t relevant post-Burton’s Batman. And they couldn’t be any more wrong. If you gave Superman the treatment that this little low budget CW show did in the cinemas, people would respond.

Wait, Tyler Hoechlin was the English voice of Sephiroth in the FFVII remake???

The Holiday-Themed Superhero Movie Marathon continues with:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

I still love the film itself, but I must admit that my enjoyment has been somewhat tempered by the knowledge of what the poor VFX staff went through in its creation :csad:

I guess I didn't watch much press during both Spider-Verse movies, I didn't know that Shameik fawned that much over Hailee.

I never noticed it until after her engagement announcement. My TikTok feed was full of Shameik attempting to flirt with Hailee during the ATSV press tour and her having none of it. The guy needed to take the hint.

He went full stupid by randomly going after Rosa Parks during the BLM protests.
