The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: The SUMC Was In The Amazon With My Mom Studying Spiders Right Before It Died - Part 61

Like I said elsewhere , I am calling my shot:

Doom is going to have his own Avengers, and Evans will play Hydra Cap in Doomsday. I am sure in Secret Wars, proper Steve and all the others will be in it. But in Doomsday, outside maybe post credits, he is Hydra Cap. Bank on it.

Hmm.

Wait till they really bake all our noodles and cast Keanu as the Beyonder for Secret Wars.

You know, maybe movies should just die.

Dunno, but I am willing to bet the post credits of FF will be something like this:

Reed is called by other Reeds. Maybe Gruffud, Krasinski, etc.

"Reed, we are coming together cause there is a threat to the Multiverse"

"Who?"

"The Avengers"

Watch. Bank on it. This will be the scene

Yeah, I'm expecting that's more or less the cliffhanger at this point. Oh no here comes Battle World whatever and gasp Steve Rogers only it's an evil one and then the trailer for Secret Wars comes out and the regular Avengers step out of the shadows.
The OG Avengers will be the portal moment in Secret Wars

I dont want this.

But youre probably right.

Probably. Which only makes me more curious about the longevity with the Avengers brand. They squandered their chance to build it out beyond the main members from before. Now, even the new team will be immediately positioned in contrast without any chance to stand on their own. Every Avengers movie will still remain built around Robert Downey Jr.

I would get fired from the Disney lot for saying this but i think the brand should retire after Secret Wars. Make Spiderman, Xmen and Fantastic Four your marquee brands for the next decade or so. The MCU doesnt HAVE to center around The Avengers.

They absolutely have squandered that chance by not building up a new team or new stars.

This.

It's like after Endgame, there was no cohesion, no focus, just throw a bunch of things at the wall to see if it sticks and add Kang here in there to things and we saw how well that went.

That's why I'm glad they're taking their time to get to X-Men. With that library of characters (if done right) + the FF, that could sustain them for the next decade.

Feige just has to get through this and have a better plan.

I know people on here are big fans of Fantastic Four and X-Men, but I'm not convinced they're the easy cheat codes to success that they seem to be discussed as. Especially Fantastic Four. Movie seems interesting so far, it'll make money, but I'm not convinced on the modern pop cultural penetration of those characters at the moment. X-Men, better chances, but I think the difference between something like the Avengers and that is that X-Men are... well, the X-Men. It's an arm of the universe that can operate pretty much independently and, as a result, bringing in disparate characters seems likely to feel like guest starring even in a big scale event. Not sure it could serve as a spine in the same sense that Avengers has previously. But it all just depends on how people respond. It'd be premature to discontinue the Avengers brand (and its hibernation I'd point to as a key reason Marvel's been struggling as of late, imo) before seeing if people react positively.

The biggest sin they made 100% was deciding an Avengers movie had to be a Saga ender. The reason you need a TA or AoU level movie is you need your new heroes to have visibility. Sequels take like 5 years now. But look at Doctor Strange. 6 years between sequels, but we saw him in Ragnarok, IW, EG, and NWH. The GOTG were in IW/EG and L&T. Outside of Yelena, the new characters have lacked this. That's why you needed a Phase 4 New Avengers like movie. To get Shang-Chi and others back out there and keep them popular. Without that, no one cares. You aren't building hype

Crazy to me that they squandered the potential expansion of the Avengers badly and that they decided their only course of action is hamper/rely on the member-berries of something not even 10yrs old simply because they refused to recast a woman beater.

But if Marvel had built this right, they wouldn't had to have been the saviors of the MCU. Cap is 2nd only to RDJ Iron Man, and his first movie is a bottom 3 MCU grossing film. But Cap stuck around and then eventually, people loved him. The Avengers movie and his sequel built his momentum. Now look where he is. The FF can easily just have a movie that does fine, but a great appearance in something else and keeps making them popular. Other characters could have done this too. But Marvel failed at continuing to hype anyone new. That's the real issue.

TFA and TROS both actually cost around 500m.

Their ROI will be fine. They're going to make billions in film, partners, and merch revenue. Especially with the expansion of the Marvel campus at the theme park.

I also think that the Star Wars films didn't spend over a $100 million on just 4 people. I mean, the FF, Thunderbolts, various Young Avengers, Simu Lu are all on the cheaper side of their contracts. Hemsworth, Holland, Larson are all going to be 8 digits.

But then again, I'm here still aghast at RDJ and Russo's paydays.

Sidebar from Disney's greed, but I'm disgusted with myself for enjoying Creature Commandos.

Specifically the Bride and the second episode.

A Monday night with now new Superman & Lois waiting for me in the morning. God I miss that show already.
