Exactly. Venom only works because of Hardy. The first movie doesn't even really fit his character that well. Very much in the Morbius vein. It isn't till the second one that they film feels tailored around his crazy fun performance.

I'd say he's more tolerated by general audiences but he was never beloved like Reeve, Jackman, RDJ, etc. in their respective comic book roles. If the new movie is a hit with audiences (and I surely hope it is) then Cavill will be swiftly forgotten.
