The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: The SUMC Was In The Amazon With My Mom Studying Spiders Right Before It Died - Part 61

I went to Orlando for MegaCon this past weekend. Only went on Thursday and Friday… had a great time. Got to meet the new Lex Luthor too.

Quantumania was just a BIG misstep all around. I also think in hindsight, it was the wrong move to introduce Kang in Loki. He's supposed to be this saga's new Big Bad, put him somewhere in a movie first, then you can sprinkle him in the TV shows.

That felt too little for him.
I think introducing him in Loki was fine. The issue was his grand movie debut was lackluster

Yeah, Majors did his best with the material given, but Kang didn't exactly set the world on fire.

They didn't build him up the way they did with Thanos, it didn't hit the same.

Remember that Thanos didn't actually fight anyone till Infinity War. Frankly, the Infinity Gems were built up more than Thanos was.

I'm still disappointed about Quantumania.

Thought we'd have some kind of surprise or twist or something, but it was just boring rehash.

True.

Looks pretty good to me, it's got colors, contrast, and everything.

Are you talking quality or cinematography? Because the latter was one of the better aspects of the last couple of Jurassic World movies.

Pretty CGI doesn’t do **** for me if the story sucks and I hate the characters. “Oohhh look, a T-Rex” loses its appeal after a while.

The original statement was about the visuals and looks, not story or characters.

Don't get the chokehold these Jurassic sequels have on some of the audience.

It's literally the same plot, with a T-Rex and the latest Hollywood players. :o

I'm just saying they're mostly well shot films regardless of the quality. I'm not about to defend the story or characters but the main reason people see these movies is for the dinosaurs and given the box office returns for the last couple of movies they could care less about the story. IMO the only one of the sequels that had a story that was worth a damn was Jurassic World because the concept of "What if the original vision of a theme park came to fruition?" is a much better idea than "How do we get these characters back to an island of dinosaurs after they escaped death the first time?" like in The Lost World, Jurassic Park III and Fallen Kingdom but even those are still way better than the overly convoluted story that Dominion had. Fallen Kingdom set it up so nicely with the concept of dinosaurs being introduced to the rest of the world but Dominion barely touched upon that in favor of a ridiculous locust storyline.

Rebirth looks fine enough, but its a little too polished here and there sometimes. That tall grass looks like a backlot somewhere. Some funny optical illusion-y VFX stuff going on with the back- and foregrounds being merged; the first dinos, the waterfall. But those story and character and camerawork beats all felt very familiar: Indy, M:I. They def want that feeling back.

In a perfect world, we get Dune where it has amazing visuals and a wonderful script with great characters. But if I am forced to choose 1 or the other, it's the script/characters everytime. If I don't care about the story, visuals add little. But if the story engages me, I can be more forgiving of the visuals
