The Superhero Cinematic Civil War: The SUMC Was In The Amazon With My Mom Studying Spiders Right Before It Died - Part 61

Yeah, Venom has a different appeal than your basic MCU movie, so I don't expect Venom legs

Venom also had delayed viewings, I think. I remember thinking that the second weekend drop wasn't as bad, because people were busy the first weekend.

The fact that B- is the lowest score coming right out the theater from general audiences for the entirety of the MCU tells me everything I need to know lol

I can't say I'm surprised by the Cinemascore either when all the signs are pretty much there for how divisive the film is but thanks to the strong marketing and the lack of competition or a BIG tentpole/blockbuster film being out right now it still looks like its going to have a really solid 4-Day OW.

If it makes over $100M over the Presidents Day weekend I would consider that a win for the most part but just like Quantumania I just don't see legs being very good going forward.

Maybe it does better OS/WW but domestically I definitely see it underperforming much like Quantumania did here although I wonder with all the BTS drama what Disney was really expecting out of this.

Those multiple reshoots pretty much sealed this movie's fate a long time ago.

We never did see who Ross had as his VP, so seemingly Marvel left that vague. Curious to see who that ends up being
It's him.

Brave New World is a bottom three MCU movie but a worse Cinemascore than Quantumania is wild. People must have really liked that MODOK ass. :o

In the plus column for Brave New World, the VFX team deserve bonuses for making Red Hulk look so good.

Never mind the fact that Sam should've died a few times in that fight, but you know.

Imagine having heavy hitters like Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas in your movie and its only redeeming quality is MODOK's ass.

Nasty work. :sneeze:

The music/score wasn’t great and too much for me. Wasn’t very good and it was constant

I'm not even a big fan, but she should've been here. Or anywhere! Her show came out in 2022, and we haven't seen her again. She was supposed to be one of the premier new Avengers, and Marvel isn't doing a damn thing to build a bigger fanbase.
Marvel have not followed their own formula. No point introducing the likes of She-Hulk, Shang Chi and Cap Marvel and then not getting them properly involved/letting them rot on the sidelines.

The likes of Black Panther, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Guardians and Dr Strange were new characters who got integrated quickly and felt part of the new generation but the latest are not getting follow-ups quickly enough for them to feel part of the universe.

Yeah, even though MoM didn't come out for 6 years after Dr Strange, we still saw him in Ragnarok, IW, EG, and NWH in between. Shang-Chi and co haven't had that level of care put into them. Hence their failure

It’s going to be interesting who if any MCU Disney+ characters show up in Doomsday

The safest bet would be Mobius and some of the other TVA members from Loki since they're the ones that would make the most sense showing up in a multiverse story compared to Moon Knight or She-Hulk though I think that they'll all be in Secret Wars. I guess putting Kate Bishop and Kamala in it isn't off the table either since they both already made their big screen debuts in The Marvels.

The new characters can benefit from wider involvement (entirely standalone sequels wouldn’t quite achieve that) and the MCU needs those big event films with a bunch of characters together to get the GA back. They may have left it too long to get their mojo back after all this time without a film of that nature. Probably why they are taking measures that feel desperate like bringing RDJ back as Doom.

Whether people like it or not this is what the MCU sold as their product, and the GA who aren’t otherwise personally invested in fringe comic characters aren’t getting what they were promised. They don’t want to see 40 independent comic films unless they are a fan of comics, in the same way I can watch a few horrors/comedies/romcoms but I’m not watching a whole bunch at the cinema in a given year even if they’re all classics. If they are even loosely linked in some way (like the Conjuring films), that can get non-genre fans in for more than their usual limit by having a TV show loyalty and payoff element.

Most people don't watch every movie. Hence why every movie doesn't gross the same. They come and go to whatever interests them. Maybe follow 1 franchise and the Avengers or whatever.

Yep they should be in. It’s going to be be too late for any characters already introduced who don’t feature at least in Secret Wars (kind of expect everyone to get at least a tiny cameo).

Unless there’s a Young Avengers film, I’ll be seriously pissed if Kate and Kamala aren’t in.
