The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

Alright, time to get revenge on Marvel, Jenna. Get your agent to call Gunn’s people! She would make a killer Zatanna. Or maybe Donna Troy.

And maybe being Sabrina Carpenter along to play Black Canary.

So I am Marvel and I hear her say that, just tell her she is playing same character lol!

After watching FNSM I’m wishing Marvel had given season 3 to Jeff Trammell instead of the What If guy…
I kinda of wish was anyone but the what if guy :o

But yeah, I havent finished YFNSM yet, but there are certainly interesting aspects there. He could be a good choice.

And on another note, Colman Domingo as MCU Magneto, please.

Man FNSM was such a pleasant surprise. Like X-men 97 it felt like it had something to say and wasnt just some throwaway piece of entertainment. Its nice knowing we have multiple seasons of that and Xmen down the pipeline.

Good lord, still voice recording for season 2. Yeah, no wonder its a 2026 release.

I mean, at this point, season 3 hasn't been worked on by the animators, as it is still in the writing room phase.
Do we know that for sure? I haven't seen any updates on either season 2 or 3 in ages, so I have no idea where they are

Its how animation works. If they are still doing VA work for season 2, then season 2 still has significant animation work to complete. Do they have work done on season 3, yeah. But I doubt they have moved past storyboarding.

Been thinking about Thunderbolts* and maybe its wishful thinking but I'm getting the feeling like there is MUCH more to this movie than we're seeing. That this movie is much more pivotal to the overall MCU storyline than a movie about a rag tag group of anti heroes sent to take down a super powered being. It just seems...to random for THIS to be the movie Sentry is introduced in unless there's a deliberate purpose behind it.

With this being positioned right before Fantastic Four and Doomsday there has to be a very pivotal component to this story...perhaps something that ties to Doom, that they are hiding in the marketing.

I’m hoping that Matthew Chauncey‘s writing for What If…? was just because of the nature of its direction and tone and the one-off episode format constricting what someone could do in more long-form storytelling and nuanced characterization.

Because, let’s be real, hardly anyone else working on that show was able to overcome those limitations and barriers. You’re basically writing an entire movie’s worth of story and plot into an around 30-minute episode. I don’t care how good of a writer you are, trying to cram that much into such a short timeframe without rushing through everything is a fool’s errand.

I guess the one possible worry I have is that one comment he made last year back about wanting Captain America to bite Sharon Carter‘s head off in the zombie episode in Season 1 because “no one likes her“. Also, What If Season 3, episode 5, the apocalyptic Riri Williams episode which also had Sharon Carter in a brief appearance as a villain? Also written by him.

And the fact that he ships Peggy with Steve makes me hope he’s not one of those weird Logan/Jean Grey shippers and make Wolverine a huge focus going forward.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I think whatever barriers Marvel forced was an issue aside. It's the mostly uninspired take on those characters and bland dialogues that worries me.

Oh tell me about it. That comment about Sharon was creepy, and Jean and Logan was the first thing that crossed my mind. Hopefully he doesn't have that 'Scott boring, Logan cool' mentality previously creators had which haunted us for years.

I worry about female characters too.

Guys.

It’s a boring ass Saturday for yours truly (a rare occasion) and for some reason, I have a mind to either go watch the Supergirl movie with Faye Dunaway or… Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends!

This is probably just fan rumors but I'd be fine with that if there were X-Men and Spider-Man TAS cameos but there's no reason any of the What If? characters should be animated. Especially since we've already seen Captain Carter in live action.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm tempted to rent the movie Companion for $9.99 but I just know it's gonna drop on Max in a couple of weeks. I've heard it's good so I don't think I'd have much buyer's remorse anyway.

I feel you Drizzy.

I'm heading out for pizza real quick, but when I return I'm either catching that Paradise show or dishing out some cash to finally watch Babygirl, but then I'm like why pay for that when that's dropping on Max soon.

Decisions, decisions.

All the people on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers who say that this is too wacky and would be an absolutely terrible idea have no taste. This sounds absolutely bonkers in the best way. If they actually do this and can somehow manage to find a way to properly realize it onscreen, I will give them all of the flowers.

If you're adding cartoon characters, don't make them cartoons. That's just stupid
