The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

Maybe/I think they mean that Infinity War and Endgame were closing out the Stones and Thanos and Iron Man story while the mission now is to begin from scratch with Dr. Doom because there is no unifying stories to close out this time…well besides chucking this multiverse concept into the dumpster I guess.

Looks like the final tally for Captain America will be just over 400 million, won't even match Aquaman 2. Yikes.
To be fair to it, it could have done way worse. But definitely losing money.

I’m sorry y’all, i know RDJ is an exceptional actor but ive yet to see him in a role where he is terrifying and intimidating, the way he’d theoretically need to be for Dr Doom. Maybe the guy’s got it in him and we’ve just never seen it but based on his past work i just cant picture a scary imposing Robert Downey Jr.

But I guess people said the same about Heath Ledger.

I did say that about Heath, and fortunately RDJ is as just a talented actor so I'm going to try and hold off judgement over what would normally be a mismatched casting.

RDJ's acting ability is the last thing anyone should question. I mean his latest role alone he just won the Oscar for should quell any notions of his ability to play a proper Doom. That said, they're not brining him back to play a proper Doom.

Not everybody can pull that off. I love Jessie Eisenberg and he was a horrible Lex Luthor. :(
With all due respect to Eisenberg, who I also think is a great actor, RDJ is a different beast.

See, though, that still speaks to my point: if you gave Eisenberg a different script and didn't direct him to act like a crackhead he could have been great. There are multiple roles of his that are pretty much irrefutable evidence of this. But, much like RDJ will be, he was playing a bizarre version of the character in a (probably!) terrible movie directed by a moron(s).
