The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

She doesn't like crackers. Too spicey. But she is really into Mexican and Asian cuisine. The way you enjoy that Jersey/Asian fusion.

Don't sleep on the Jersey/Asian fusion. They've got some heat.

Ew!!! Hard pass. :(
Please tell me you aren’t ewing scotch eggs???
They’re the stuff of dreams.

Irish Rover makes its own sausage, which is amazing. Scotch eggs are a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and then breaded and lightly fried. Served with spicy mustard and lettuce and tomato. It’s so wonderful.

My biggest issue is I can't tolerate spicy food. No mustard and sausages for me. :(

I feel for people who can’t tolerate spicy food. It’s a staple of my life.

It’s funny though, after years of eating ghost pepper and Carolina reaper sauces and powders in my food, I finally met my match in the form of a sample of three hot sauces that my niece gave me for Christmas this year. Torchbearer’s Zombie Apocalypse, Garlic Reaper, and Son of Zombie sauces:

I love spicy food and I’m a hot sauce connoisseur. I even hold a membership at The Pepper Palace. But this stuff causes me physical pain. I still use it, but there’s a time and a place for it, and a small dab is all that is needed.

I will say that this stuff does give me empathy for people who struggle to tolerate spicy food. It’s diabolical.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three

And that's a wrap, friends...

Overall I enjoyed this trilogy. I found the narrative a bit convoluted but that might say more about my powers of comprehension than about the storytelling abilities of the producers :cwink:

I gotta say, having watched this I feel like my knowledge of DC lore is greater than ever before. If part of the goal of these films was to get newbies like myself interested in characters like Adam Strange, Nightshade, Bat-Lash, Lobo, Black Canary, Hawkgirl, Constantine, Kamandi, The Losers, Spectre, Vixen, Mister Terrific, Martian Manhunter, and on and on, I'd say the trilogy accomplished that goal spectacularly. I'm looking forward to eventually subscribing to DC Universe Infinite so I can explore the histories of some of these characters in greater depth...

Between these films and My Adventures with Superman, I've also become quite intrigued by Supergirl (Kara). Several folks here have suggested that I read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for a definitive portrayal of Kara's character. Hopefully that miniseries is on Infinite also...

I actually considered buying a digital copy of this trilogy when the inevitable Ultimate edition splicing all three films together is eventually released. However, having now seen all the films, I think one viewing was enough :yay:

My personal favorite streaming subscription. It’s worth every penny.

I’ll have to furnish you a recommended reading list when you get it. :)

Though it’s tied up in WB history and references, WB should just sell Loony Tunes in their entirety to someone else if they can’t be bothered with it. Still a decade or more away from some of the big characters and cartoons entering the public domain (copyright expires under current U.S. law).

I saw the concept art and I can't believe they went with generic gun totting villains over superpowered villains again. We have had 25 years of near constant superhero movies and tv shows. Marvel should be pushing the envelope and going with more interesting visual designs at this point.

Maybe it's the couple of times I've tried it and it wasn't made well but I could never get into aioli.

I haven’t seen Cap: BNW yet. I had planned to but after the reviews, I decided to wait until it hits streaming in 15 minutes.

That said, I like Sam as Cap and I even like Mackie as an actor. He’s said some dumb, misogynistic and homophobic **** in real life that I don’t like, and I think he even made some stupid statement back in like 2016 that Trump “came from nothing” and became successful (do a Google search, dumbass), but I typically enjoy his performances. But sadly I think if the movie around him is bad, it’s hard for him (or anyone) to really stand out in a lead role. Again, I haven’t seen the film so maybe he is really terrible in it. But I’ve liked him as a lead in other stuff like Twisted Metal and that Black Mirror episode. I feel like he could have pulled off a good performance in a GOOD Cap movie.

The sad thing is, like many have stated, Disney will probably use the poor performance of this movie as “evidence” that they can’t have a hit movie with a Black lead (as if Black Panther I & II don’t ****ing exist).
Mackie is at his best as a chaotic comedic actor with some dramatic moments in my opinion. Mackie is very funny and charismatic in interviews. Mackie was great in Twisted Metal because he was most like himself in real life. Mackie as a serious dramatic lead often tends to suck (Altered Carbon)

So far there are only three real gifts that Disney+ gave to the MCU: WandaVision, '97 and Born Again.

She-Hulk and Agatha are in my heart too, but those aforementioned are the trinity. :o
Same, but swapping out She-Hulk and Agatha with Loki S1 and Hawkeye for me.

I'm still cautious about putting Born Again up there since we're only halfway through but so far so good.

Same as you but I'd definitely keep She-Hulk (happy to dump Agatha - which I had been looking forward to ahead of time). Good reminder to rewatch at least the first and last couple of episodes, won't ever get bored of those.

It's all very disappointing after getting pretty excited at the beginning after Wandavision debuted, and seemed like something much more imaginative than usual MCU fare.

Just getting caught up on some recent convos...

A happy belated birthday to the always delightful @Shinobi Shaw! I hope you had a wonderful day, my friend :yay:

I only ever saw Batman Forever and Batman & Robin once each, unlike Batman Returns which is tied with Reeves' film as my favourite Batman movie, never mind one of my all-time favourite CBMs. All this recent talk is making me think it might be time to re-visit the Schumacher films...

I still haven't seen Captain America: Brave New World. I was all set to see it theatrically but literally nobody I know had any interest in it whatsoever, and I've never been one to go to movie theatres alone. I did however buy a ticket online to help support the film, for all the good that did :o

I recently added both Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey and Gunn's The Suicide Squad to my digital collection - love both those movies. I could have added Black Adam and Flash for the same price but for some odd reason I decided not to :oldrazz:

Thanks Billy, I'll let you know when I subscribe. Any help curating a reading list of iconic DC stories would be much appreciated, my friend :hrt:

As far as Disney+ MCU shows go, I would say the highlights have been Loki, DD: Born Again, Wandavision, Agatha, Werewolf By Night and She-Hulk.

Falcon & Winter Soldier and Ms. Marvel were okay.

Moon Knight had its moments but was more bad than good. I like Oscar in the role though.

Hawkeye, What If and Secret Invasion all get a… D+. But that might be too generous.

Haven’t seen X-Men ‘97 aside from one episode but it felt kinda cringe. I know people love it but I just wasn’t into it. Also haven’t seen Echo yet (not for any particular reason; I just keep forgetting about it).

Born Again has the problem of knowing they had to reshoot or retool most of the show and you can tell as you're watching it. The Karen/Foggy absence is apparent and you can feel it, but also some other things that made DD on Netflix that show we all love. One major thing with the Netflix show is you understand the overall plot of the show but with the Disney+ show, it's got this janky start and stop to the various plots. I just don't see it being cohesive when we get to the end. And I don't think the Fisk/Vanessa part of the show is working as well as they think.
