The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

Amanda Seyfried turned down Gunn's old offer to play Gamora before Saldana.

Jennifer Lawrence also had a lot to say about being painted blue for the X-Men movies not being the best experience.

I just cannot imagine Amanda in this role.

She could have been a fun Mantis.

Always think it’s petty for actors to come out and say how they had a missed opportunity on a successful role to the actor who actually made the role famous. Almost like “you only got the opportunity because I turned down the role!”

On the other hand, I do love it when actors talk about how they bombed an audition for a big role. I saw a video yesterday of Fassbender talking about how he auditioned for Mad Max Fury Road and totally blew it. :funny:

Tom Hardy must feel good about that one, since I recall him talking about how he was a year or two behind Fassbender in their drama school and totally idolized him.

Yeah he must, haha. Fassbender complimented Hardy’s performance in the movie as well, basically saying Tom was much better than he could have been.

To be fair to Seyfried, she's also out there talking about roles she lost out on, as I just saw a snippet about her confirming she auditioned for Wicked with Cynthia Erivo.
I remember thinking "Why Ariana Grande when Amanda Seyfried was right there?" when that casting announcement was made but Grande proved me wrong by knocking it out of the park.

I remember Bradley Cooper claiming doing a Batman voice for Green Lantern likely helped him lose out to Ryan Reynolds.

Both Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Eddie Redmayne have admitted they suck at auditioning.

Toby Kebbell is a big Akira fan. Kebbell said he auditioned for the live action movie and spent most of his time telling them how they were getting it wrong :funny:

Refreshing to hear from Hollywood elites who you imagine are usually stuck up their own ass and believing their own hype. A bit of honesty and laughing at yourself can do wonders to bring you down to Earth for fans.

It doesn’t sound like this particular MCU Storyline/ group of characters resonated with her.
I wonder if there is a character, even A DC or, Image character who might be a better fit.

It’s interesting that there is casting around John Stewart’s dad when in the comics, it is his mom who is the more important character. I love the detail that I think PKJ introduced, that his mom was a leader in the civil rights movement. It’s a cool detail that plays into who John is.

I’m also in the Werewolf by Night loving camp. That was absolutely amazing. She Hulk was pretty good. Hawkeye was more fun than it deserved to be and the Guardians Holiday Special was wonderful. Personally, I am LOVING Born Again. The rest of the shows weren’t great. And I know that I’m in the minority, but I detested WandaVision
I think nearly everyone is in that camp.

Can’t wait to see more from any of those characters.
