The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

Lets be honest here. The thing that killed Daredevil was Feige's need to bring in all Marvel content directly under his control and studio. Combined that he was in step with his bosses to fully support Disney+ was another factor.

It's funny how ignorant they were of Daredevil's popularity among the fandom. 🙄

Daredevil died cause of the death of Marvel TV, the Ike Perlmutter being kicked out and Feige getting it all, and the Netflix deal dying. Not cause of Defenders
You’re both sort of right:

Netflix Boss: Marvel Wanted To Make Money, Not Great Television

While the upcoming launch of Disney+ was definitely a factor in the Netflix Marvel shows not continuing and did not help, most of it was just Netflix’s whole mismanagement of the entire thing in terms of their dumb imposed episode release model and Marvel Television, Netflix and Ike Perlmutter being a bunch of penny pinchers, and everything just kind of fizzled out at the end.

Even before the whole Disney+ thing, they and the rest of the original Marvel Television division were pretty much already on their way out the door.

I think viewership was definitely a big factor. Lets be honest the buzz on the Netflix series had pretty much evaporated after Daredevil season 3. I feel like the final seasons of Jessica Jones and the Punisher got swallowed up in Endgame’s hype and literally no one cared that those dropped.

The Netflix Marvel shows were also pretty much fully cancelled by the time Punisher S2 and Jessica Jones S3 were released. It was hard to care at that point.

I remember trying to convince a friend of mine to watch Daredevil after season 1 came out. She refused to even give it a chance because she associated Daredevil with the Affleck movie. I tried to tell her that the show was nothing like that but she wouldn’t believe me. And this is someone who thought Arrow was prestige TV back then.

God that was such an exciting era for Marvel tv though. Actually comic book tv in general. I remember there was a time where fans were actually debating what was the better show Daredevil or The Flash. lol
The CW shows lasted longer though... The Flash didn't need 10 seasons.

To this very day I have yet to watch a full episode of Arrow, The Flash or Black Lightning.
Same. I would have back in the day but once it was announced that the DCEU would not be in the same continuity as those shows, I didn't bother (not counting that later Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover).

I'll still check out Superman & Lois one of these days since that's apparently separate from the Arrowverse.

Believe me man, it's really, really good.

Right up there with Daredevil as one of the best superhero TV shows.

Early seasons of Flash and Arrow were entertaining. If you going into it expecting campy, fun, comic booky shows it did its job.

Those initial 3-4 years of CW DC shows were incredibly exciting man. I still remember the day when they revealed what Grant Gustin’s Flash costume looked like and it broke the internet. Because that was a time where TV execs were afraid to just have superheros on tv doing supehero things. The Flash was the first real modern attempt at having a full on superhero show where the main character suits up every episode and fights crime. I think at the time thats all we as comic book fans wanted. And Arrow paved the way for that, like it or not.

And then remember all the hype for the Arrow vs Flash crossover?!

That’s the only one genuinely worth the time investment, honestly. Flash, Black Lightning and Supergirl all had their moments, but they were fleeting. S&L was leagues above. And if you’ve seen Daredevil, you’ve already seen what Arrow was trying to be. No point in wasting any time with the s***tier version.

This comment reminds me of my Disapointment with The Supergirl finale.
The big winner in that story?
CAT GRANT!
She managed to get Supergirl to reveal her secret identity,
ON AIR!
The ratings must have been HUGE!
Big win for, Cat, not so much for the viewers of the finale.
