The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

None of the CW shows touched the levels of awfulness that Titans achieved. To this day i cant believe how aggressively awful and mean spirited Titans was. That could’ve and should’ve been DC’s Daredevil.

I only watched the first episode of Titans. Was it really that bad?

Arguably the worst thing DC had ever produced. Like, I know some people say Zack Snyder hated Superman and thus why his movies were the way they were—and we can have discourse about that— but without a doubt the people behind Titans had some kind of special spiteful disdain for the source material that they seemed intent on making something so awfully mean spirited.

They were literally following That Guy’s lead, just doing it with less money. :o

So yes, also terrible.

I love how they advertised it like it was meant to be in the same universe as the Snyder films, but then it wasn't.

Which is really strange because Titans came out well in the aftermath of Justice League so you’d think at that time they would try to go the opposite of Snyder.

Was it revealed during that DCEU showcase that was hyping Wonder Woman and the various DCEU content? I remember that being the reason Cyborg isn't in Titans.

I mean look, overall we know Titans was what it was, BUT I thought they had some good ideas here and there.

Still trash, but you know.

I think Titans was in development for a while, perhaps while Snyder was shaping BvS, so maybe its DNA began with Snyder’s fingerprints on it. But to my knowledge that was a Geoff Johns pet project through and through and it didnt begin production until after the Justice League fiasco. So, i’d be surprised they would try to ape the Snyderverse.

I don’t think Snyder hated Superman.
He had a different take.
Snyder apparently felt that Superman had to go through a period of darkness and depression before he became a symbol of light and hope.
Thankfully, audiences SOUNDLY rejected that idea.

Aside from maybe casting Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, the only good idea that Titans had was to end it.

I disagree. When you hear about his plans for Justice League sequel, he hated Superman. Or at the very least he was embarrassed by a being as powerful as Superman being altruistic and good.

Call me crazy, but I liked some of the scenes with Bruce and Jason. When Bruce told him he didn't have to wear a cape to be his son, they tried.

From what I recall, I think I also liked Superboy.

No it was made before all that. It was developed for TNT (pilot written in 2014) but then they didn’t want it so it eventually landed on DC Universe. But it was 100% developed when the Snyderverse was the expected tone of the DC Universe.

Speaking of DC shows I binged Season 5 of HQ which I had no idea was even out and man I still enjoy the heck out of that show but unfortunately it just feels like it's on its way out.

Maybe I'm wrong and hopefully I am but these last couple of seasons have pretty much went under the radar and outside of this forum I don't see it being talked about anywhere else online.

The lack of buzz and promotion really does remind me of stuff like Titans and Pennyworth eventhough it's a million times better than either of those shows it's just not getting the treatment it deserved which is a shame because it deserves better.

I also found time to binge the second season of Severance as well and that show just continues to be a banger and a real standout among all the streaming shows they've been pushing out.

There are just too many shows out right now and I can see how some can get lost in the mix.

One day Dick Grayson will be done really well in live-action. One day. Hopefully before I grow old and weary. I'm already half of that.
