The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread* - Part 61

I feel like Doomsday and Secret Wars would have to be a special level of awful to not be successful though. The brand name, the gimmick, the likely huge cameos, these movies are going to at the very least make Deadpool and Wolverine money without even trying.

The Russos just might be guys better at being hired guns with less control than auteurs who have to make all the creative decisions

The bar for success is going to be insanely high. You are looking at a major blockbusters budget in talent alone. D&W money will actually be a loss for Marvel.

A billion each is practically a guarantee for Doomsday and Secret Wars but I can't see either of them reaching Infinity War or Endgame numbers. Maybe Secret Wars has a shot at reaching $2 billion but times are just different now.

Putting Tatiana and Zegler in the same category as those two?! I can't…

Remember when we all used to love The Rock? What happened?

Oh yeah, Black Adam.

That is actually infuriating. They are both extremely talented but Tatiana is a f***ing chameleon and is literally one of the best actors we have. WTF.

He was definitely there heavily for the latter two. It's why Brave New World is just extremely mid as opposed to a huge dumpster fire and why The Marvels's isn't as good as it could've been with it's really awful ending.

Yeah it's been heavily speculated he is in damage control mode at the amount of underperforming shows and films. The Russos were probably not the first choice, but they made the highest grossing films.

People keep saying the ending of The Marvels was bad. Are people's problems with it that Monica got sent to the X-Men universe? To me that is more of a plus in the movie's favor rather than a negative. Everything about the movie was so mid that that post-credit scene was the most exciting thing about it.

1. Isn't that Kevin Feige's job, to oversee the creatives who work on Marvel movies and ensure they do their best work? 2. Where the **** was he during Secret Invasion, Captain America Brave New World, The Marvels, etc?

He was looking at ways to pad his resume to get a promotion. He was sort of forced to refocus on Marvel after 2023.

The post-credit scene is whatever, I think the film's proper ending is dumb. The bad guy randomly ripping a hole through the barriers of the multiverse comes out of freaking nowhere, and feels like bad studio mandating to setup more crossover nonsense despite the rest of the film clearly not being interested in any of that.

I mean, maybe if the movie WAS interested in crossover multiverse nonsense, it would've been a more exciting film? It clearly needed something interesting. Its "story" was most certainly not it.

The dude even had a Star Wars movie in development at one point. He stretched himself thinner than Reed Richards on the world's biggest pizza pan.

The random shoehorned multiverse bull**** was dumb and sucked, really lazy tacked on choice to make people clap because hey it's the X-Men or what the **** ever, and I think there was probably a much stronger movie underneath a layer of executive meddling.

No.

It just needed to be allowed to focus on the things it clearly WANTED to focus on - the dynamic of these women and Carol’s guilt over the way she handled both her personal life and superhero life (the villain’s motivation was a fantastic conceit squandered by not being even a little fleshed out), and it could’ve been a proper film. The multiverse BS was so painfully unnecessary and shoehorned in.

I still don’t understand the point of including the X-Men stuff in The Marvels.

Beast looked amazing though but it was truly pointless.
It's just Secret Wars hype. They already full on did the Spider-Man stuff and were working on Wolverine, so gotta start teasing the other previous actors people kinda sorta liked.

I'd watch The Marvels over the vast majority of the MCU, just to watch Carol, Kamala, Monica, and Sam do their thing. Infectious

But it does hurt that there is a lot of story there, that was clearly ripped out. If only they had hired a talented storyteller to direct- oh wait. They did. And then didn't trust her.
