I'm watching Infinity War, and I do really like it still. It builds on everything that came before and successfully mixes characters and elements introduced in other projects. It's almost like a whole season of Game of Thrones in one sitting, but it works, somehow. The humor is hit and miss, but that's the MCU for me. I like how dark this film is compared to most projects in the franchise, it's not pulling any punches.
This brings me to Doomsday and Secret Wars and a recurring topic. These are supposed to be the Infinity War and Endgame of the new era, but those films were built on a mountain of material that captivated their audience. There were two smaller Avengers films and an Avengers 2.5 in the form of Civil War, all adding to the big conclusion emotionally.
We have nothing of the sort for the new duology, which means that the Russos aren't equipped with a rich filmography of material to cultivate, but rather a catalogue of films and streaming shows that largely haven't found the same kind of success. This is going to be challenging, making an artificial setup into something grand. We'll see, I'm certainly excited to meet the Fox-Men again, even if the versions are new. That in itself is a challenge, since this is supposed to be an Avengers film, and I'm not looking forward to the Avengers.
