The Superman Look: Shaping Superman

I want Brandon Routh to bulk up a bit more before the sequel rolls around. Also, the suit needs to be made where his abs are visible to show that he's in good shape. I don't want him to look like he's on steroids but Superman shouldn't look scrawny either.

Okay, I was searching the internet to find what a muscular, ripped guy with Superman's dimensions (6'3", 235 lbs) would look like in real life.

I tried to find someone with as little bodyfat as possible, and came across this guy:

Name: Stefano (no last name listed on the website)
Height: 6'4" (I know he's an inch taller)
Weight: 240 lbs (Superman would weigh 238.13333 lbs if he were 6'4" tall, so that's pretty close)

I hope this puts an end to all the speculation about Superman's look, but it probably won't.

Comments?

Fck it, they should just put this guy to tight acting classes and then hire him as new Superman. For the reboot.

Nah, keep Routh, he just needs to bulk up some more & get some actual abs.

Good f**king lord, get over yourselves.

Superman is not a muscular body spray painted with blue and red.

Gary Franki drew one hell of a Superman. with muscles under the suit. Like he should be.

He looks that way in the comcis too:

At least he does in the good ones.
its a cartoony body. its a cartoony unrealistic house ,unrealistic sky and unrealistic face designes.
so why shouldnt we also cast a guy who has extreme small eyes, nose and mouth??

lets turn on our brains .....:yay:

Thank you. I can't stand when someone vouches for a mutant-looking rendition of Superman and then would cite Sale or McGuinness as a reference point to try and further their "point." Not that I don't mind these artists' respective takes on the big guy...BUT...if Superman has to look that unnaturally large and muscular than it stretches into a realm beyond insanity. Some people forget that their could be subtle differences between what works in a comic and what works in a film.

Great points. Clark should definitely look bigger than the average joe, but in that "Gee, they sure do make 'em big in Kansas" sort of way, which Routh was.

I just want Routh to add about 10 more lbs of muscle. He's not even bigger than Welling.

They why not draw him built like Steve Buscemi? Why draw Superman muscular at all? Surely his Kryptonian muscles would almost totally atrophy here on Earth since they don't get any workout at all because all his power comes from the yellow sun. Really he'd be very scrawny and weak looking, though still super strong.

I'd say he gets a workout when he's doing all the superfeats.

Anyway, I'm not gonna argue about what's realistic and what isn't. I just hate the way gigantic muscular Superman looks. I hate the exaggerated muscles look period. Not everyone should look like the Hulk. It's ugly as hell.

As for Superman's secret ID. I'm sure someone would eventually notice how similar Clark and Superman are. But does that matter? Everyone in the world has a lookalike, maybe more than one. Besides all that, the glasses and hair distorts Clark's features enough that it makes his face look different. Reeve's face looked different when he had the glasses and the combed hair than when he's Superman.

It is conceivable that Kryptonians are naturally a little taller and more physically impressive than your average Terran. Superman could get away with a cheesy disguise if he did not hang around with the same group of friends in both identities. That has always been a really stupid part of the Superman mythos.

Yeah, it's weird how glasses hide the truth from everyone.

I still think that Routh should be someone jacked & have a body like the Spartans in "300".

I hate it when people say that Clark should look huge or 'jacked' or whatever.

Clark shouldnt be so big that he looks like a bouncer when he's in his suit.

He wouldnt exactly be inconspicuous; the flimsy glasses disguise would be absolutely useless...............as evidenced by Mike O'Hearn in the Worlds Finest shorts.

Ah but some fans just have body obsessions. And they're male! :wow: :oldrazz:

I don't think he should be bodybuilder big, just a big guy in general. He should look like someone who goes to the gym regularly. He should have the whole package: biceps, pecs, abs, etc.

That's because Welling isn't as lean as Routh is. Routh had to be conjoined to an ultra-tight milliskin suit throughout filming. I still remember the SV episode where Clark went swimming and Aquaman had a better body by a factor of two. Size doesn't necessarily equal muscle. Welling looked much leaner in the first two seasons. His physique isn't as refined as it was.

Exactly. We're already supposed to suspend disbelief for the fact that a guy gets by with a state-of-the-art disguise consisting of a pair of glasses and a different hairdo. If he can't routinely disappear into his work clothes and not look like Jay Cutler in business attire, then it just goes too far into stupidity.

maybe he should look like me
with modern superhero materials............noone would see hes muscles.

when will people understand that it doestnn matter if the actor has a good definition. we wont notice it even with cheap materials.

Still, Welling is pretty buff but if he's going to become Superman he does need to become more refined/defined.

I for one am glad Superman isn't juicing like Ronnie Coleman anymore. FYI, Ronnie is 5'11'' and just shy of 300 lbs. and Superman is 6'3'' and 225 lbs.

He'd make a great Superman villain but Superman certainly should NOT look like this. I like the artist's interpretation of Superman. I couldnt agree more that he doesnt need to look like a ''Roid-Freak''.

Now here is a list of heroes who SHOULD be BUFF and RIPPED, ala weight trainers or wrestlers.

THOR
HERCULES
HULK: If he isnt CGI, which he SHOULD be

Hawkman: May we never see him in a movie.

She-Hulk: Not the ''Man-She'' they've been drawing but ripped none-the-less. May we never see her in a movie.

Namor
Captain America: Not a roid-freak but ripped.

JUGGERNAUGHT: That lump of trash in X3 WASNT JUGGERNAUGHT. He SHOULD be CGI. If not, he should still look like he could eat your family.

Captain Marvel: Not a Roid-Freak but I've always thought he should be just a little bigger than Superman, same height but about 10-15 obvious pounds heavier.

Why? Strength of Hercules, it defines him, differentiates him from Superman. He's always been a bit bigger than Black Adam.

Powergirl: Not a 'man-she, but a bit ripped.
